In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Engineering Support Department is currently hiring for an Engineer / Engineering Trainee.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

The Engineer/Engineer Trainee:

  • Is responsible for the planning, composing, evaluating, advising or reporting on any activity which requires the application of engineering principles in a Bruce Power facility.

  • Requires layout and to specify equipment including their corresponding maintenance and quality plans and procedures.

  • Maintains instructions and procedures up to date, prepare reports, review proposals from external organizations.

  • Participates in training programs as required.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform the role of the Valve Engineer in the implementation of Bruce Power's valve maintenance Program. This includes providing technical direction and recommendations for the program and related issues; implement the program procedures; coordination of activities between various interfacing departments; maintaining a working relationship with equipment vendors and industry groups; interfacing with maintenance regarding specific issues; supporting outage and online work execution etc.

  • Provides technical evaluations, advice and solves problems in a number of major work areas, in support of operation and maintenance of the facilities.

  • Receives assignments from Supervisor as well as identifies potential problems and opportunities in assigned areas and/or components in the facility.

  • Assesses and evaluates disposition of medium and long-term of station equipment problems.

  • Keeps abreast of maintenance and operating problems, working closely with Engineering Fix It Now counterpart, and takes action to implement change as appropriate.

  • Cooperates with other departments and organizations in arranging tests and providing appropriate documentation as required.

  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field and incorporate as appropriate.

  • Maintains and/or updates operating and other specified department/divisional/section procedures. Receives assignments relating to procedures from Supervisor or identifies potential problems and opportunities. Discusses these with operating personnel or others as required to ensure consistency with operating licenses, policies, and principles, standard practices, standing instructions, maximize safety of operation, minimal risk of damage or loss, optimum frequency of routines; efficient operation and the like. Submits for review and approval.

  • Prepares reports to provide information and data in answer to requests or for historical purposes. Collects, or arranges for collection, and analyzes data from past events or operations. Prepares reports for distribution to various groups, outlining technical details of procedures, processes, results or conclusions and the roles played by various groups or external organizations. The foregoing may include delivery of presentations. Provides explanations and answers to questions received from recipients of reports.

  • Reviews proposals received from other sources. Discusses proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate. Recommends disposition of proposal to Supervisor in writing for review and forwarding for approval authority.

  • Assists/prepares specifications and scope of work, for purchasing requisitions for material, services and equipment. Follows up with procurement/supply chain and provide necessary technical services during field installation. Prepares recommendations for spare parts requirements for new equipment.

  • Participates in training programs to further own development and assists in the development of others. Attends lectures, do assignments and write examinations. Develops training material and give lectures, sets and marks examinations and otherwise assist in training programs.

  • May be required to gather and collate data for use in department/section budget or business planning preparation and to monitor variances to annual budget and submits to Supervisor for reporting purposes.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires knowledge of physics, chemistry, metallurgy, and engineering to technically understand the operation of the facility.

  • Requires advanced knowledge of one or more of these subjects to evaluate and propose improvements to processes, equipment and systems or to unit safety, reliability and performance.

  • Requires knowledge of English in order to prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations both verbally and in writing.

  • Requires experience to solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate components or materials, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning and operation of a nuclear facility.

  • Experience in valves, specific to maintenance, operation, and/or Asset Management activities would be considered an asset, however is not considered a requirement.

Education and Experience:

Engineer (Occupation Code 670325)

  • Completion of a 4-year University Engineering degree. Mechanical Engineering is an asset.

  • An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P.Eng.).

  • A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years' experience is considered necessary.

Engineering Trainee (Occupation Code 670207)

  • Completion of a 4-year University Engineering degree. Mechanical Engineering is an asset.

  • Working towards a valid Professional Engineers of Ontario certification.

  • A period of over 2 years and up to and including 4 years' experience is considered necessary.
