Description
Purpose

The Team Lead, Environment will oversee specific projects and operational plans related to Liberty's environmental strategies, products, and processes that are vital to the company's overall corporate objectives. As a recognized subject matter expert in the environmental discipline, this role will involve managing projects / processes that assess and improve environmental performance, contributing to Liberty's sustainability goals. This position will also be responsible for administrating Liberty's greenhouse gas (GHG) Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventory, as well as handling any GHG inquiries across the business. The Team Lead will work closely with the Senior Director, Environment and the Office of Sustainability to advocate and execute plans that continuously enhance Liberty's sustainability performance. This role will require close collaboration with internal (e.g., Operations personnel) / external (e.g., GHG verification auditors) stakeholders, ensuring policies and practices are understood and followed. Reporting to the Senior Director, Environment, occasional travel of up to 5% may be required.

Accountabilities

  • Guide the execution and improvement of reporting processes.
  • Lead the planning, collection, analysis, and reporting of environmental data across different departments. 
  • Develop, implement, maintain program plans to achieve specific environmental objectives and targets, ensuring alignment with ESG reporting requirements (e.g., waste, GHG, water, biodiversity).
  • Organize and analyze environmental sustainability reporting requirements, ensuring feasibility and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Facilitate collaboration across business lines and assist in communication and training to support program plans.
  • Identify and implement updates to environmental sustainability reporting templates in alignment with changes from the Sustainability Office.
  • Design and lead the deployment of training, communications, and support materials to streamline the request and collection of environmental sustainability data.
  • Organize and oversee the data collection from the field, ensuring accurate reporting to the Sustainability Office for Liberty's Annual Sustainability Report, CDP Report, EEI/AGA reports, and ESG rating agency responses.
  • Support the management of Liberty's GHG Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculations and reporting. 
  • Review qualitative and quantitative environmental responses for the Annual Sustainability Report.
  • Support the transition to new ESG software platforms, coordinating efforts between the Sustainability Office, Customer First Team, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on the progress of ESG software implementation.
  • Conduct or oversee Environmental sustainability reporting audits and assurance initiatives, ensuring compliance and quality.
  • Support the management of Environmental KPI reporting through Liberty's EHS Software Platform-Gensuite.
  • Support operating and capital budget preparations, guiding financial strategies to ensure environmental programs are adequately funded and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Support Liberty's long-term vision to develop a culture reflective of a commitment toward compliance and environmental stewardship. 

Education and Experience

  • University degree in a technical/interdisciplinary environmental field or equivalent education/industry experience
  • Understanding of environmental laws and regulations applicable to the utility and energy industries in North America 
  • Relevant experience in environmental compliance and sustainability program development
  • Knowledge and experience with sustainability reporting frameworks considered an asset e.g., UN SDGs, SASB, GRI, CDP
  • Experience with and in-depth knowledge of ISO14001:2015 is considered an asset
  • Experience with project management and/or program management considered an asset
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Superior team building and coaching abilities, both as a leader and a team member
  • Periodic travel required due to assets across North America
