Description
Burns & McDonnell's Power global practice is seeking to hire an experienced Electrical Engineer in the listed office location. The Power Division focuses on the design and construction of power generation facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage. Projects also include other types of heavy industrial facilities, such as decarbonization, mining, and gas compression. The project diversity offers a wide range of design and project execution experiences on both multi-discipline and electrical-only projects.
Engineered systems include the electrical interconnect to the bulk power grid and all auxiliary electric power equipment in the facility. Equipment includes rotating machines, such as generators and motors, solar photovoltaic panels, inverters, energy storage systems, such as batteries, large power transformers, generator circuit breakers, isolated phase bus duct, non-segregated phase bus duct, switchgear, motor control centers, small power transformers, variable frequency drives, station batteries, and UPS systems.
The Electrical Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for both new and retrofit projects on a variety of projects. The Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to client requirements, industry standards, and budget constraints.
Responsibilities to include:
- Perform electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

Modify and review production drawings.

Design electrical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

Apply strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.

Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

Efficiently utilize a number of design software tools to perform engineering calculations and physical plant designs.

Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.

Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations in support of project execution.

Act as a field engineer on construction sites.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program, and 3 years of electrical engineering experience.

OR a bachelor's degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.

OR a master's degree in electrical engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.

Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including team building, collaboration, and organization.

Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills.

Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

Strong computer skills include Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs, and other analysis programs.

Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification preferred, Professional Engineer (PE) license encouraged.
