SEMCO Energy - Laborer
Position Summary
SEMCO Energy is seeking a Laborer for our Niles, MI team! As a Laborer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Central district operations, working closely with team members to ensure the safe and efficient handling of materials and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the safe and efficient loading and unloading of materials, equipment, and tools.

Support operators in day-to-day activities, including the setup and maintenance of work areas.

Perform general labor tasks such as site clean-up, material handling, and basic equipment operation.

Ensure adherence to all company safety standards and regulatory requirements, identifying and addressing potential hazards.

Conduct routine inspections of equipment and tools, reporting any issues to supervisors.

Maintain communication with team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Contribute to the overall safety and efficiency of the site through active participation in safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

Minimum High School Diploma/GED required

Previous experience in a laborer role is preferred, but not required.

Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and contribute to a team environment.

Possession of a valid MI driver's license. Must be able to obtain and maintain CDL License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Safe Driving Policy.

Must be able to walk at least 10 miles per day in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel, walk, climb, push, pull, lift and carry 20-50 lbs., twist, reach above and below shoulder levels, fine finger movements.

Ability to interact with the public and represent SEMCO professionally in the community.

Ability to work both independently and as a team.

Working knowledge of computers and software is preferred.

Ability to complete Operator Qualification Program and operate equipment and tools.

This position is based in Niles, MI.

This is a unionized position within the Steelworkers Local 16201.

The role may involve non-traditional hours and rotational shifts depending on company needs.

Must be able to work outside in various climates, such as extreme cold and extreme heat.
