For Construction Engineering: This position will assist the Engineering Manager and Field Operations and is responsible for designing and estimating construction projects for the replacement of existing natural gas facilities, and construction of new natural gas facilities. Also responsible for coordinating designs with GIS Analysts, Environmental Engineering, System Planning, Right of Way, Pipeline Safety and Compliance, Field Operations, and outside companies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Records and track each set of improvement plans from preliminary to final stage through construction.
- Assists in the daily coordination, assignment of work and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers.
- Works on special projects: bridge crossings; railroad crossings; design non-normal services, such as for loft buildings; work with those blasting near the Company's mains; and calculate stress on pipelines with non-typical amounts of cover.
- Responsible for specifying and having placed on order most non-stock material required for all types of main and service work.
- Reviews the design and cost estimates for all types of main and service work; review delivery pressures; and justify proposed main work.
- Handles calls and correspondence regarding the status of jobs and projects.
- Prepares necessary paperwork related to the Company's procedures for gas main and service work as required
- Attends utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities to reduce the impact of proposed improvements to the Company's existing facilities.
- Attends site meetings to resolve specific issues or conflicts with the Company's facilities and proposed improvements.
- Schedules and prioritizes projects that are going to construction or have a higher priority due to the Company's requirements
- Ensures effective utilization of the Company's Geographical Information System (GIS) and asset management system to manage all capital construction design work
- Ensures the use of the Company's standards and applicable State and Federal codes and regulations for all design work
- Ensures that all work is performed in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner to maximize system integrity, reliability, and value to customers
- All other duties as assigned by Manager.
Essential Characteristics and Competencies
Ability to learn industry standards and regulatory code pertinent to pipelines and natural gas operations including CFR Part 192, 193, and 195.
