Summary

Support the Senior Director and Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs by identifying emerging federal legislative and regulatory policy issues with an emphasis on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) activities that may impact Salt River Project's electric customers, water shareholders, employees and elected officials; assist in the development and implementation of strategies to achieve corporate goals and objectives, including but not limited to the following areas: energy, water, environmental policies and wholesale energy markets.

This role is based in Washington, DC and requires occasional travel to the SRP Headquarters in Tempe, Arizona. 

What You'll Do

  1. Manage company's relationships with FERC and related stakeholders.  
  2. Assist with the development and the implementation of Regulatory strategies (including policy development, planning, and other forms of problem resolution) to support compliance with regulatory requirements and support SRP's strategic goals.
  3. Analyze proposals and issuances by FERC and/or Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) or Independent System Operators (ISOs).
  4. Work with internal teams (policy and other subject matter experts) to understand key legislative and regulatory issues and assist in developing and implementing strategies to help SRP maximize support for corporate objectives.
  5. Ensure standardization of Regulatory meeting outcomes, maintain library of discussion materials, and facilitate ongoing knowledge, capture/documentation of major decisions with historical significance.
  6. Provide timely and succinct internal and external communications for meetings with regulatory agencies, industry groups, advocacy organizations, consultants and public speaking events and other key constituent interactions.
  7. Responsible for coordinating with internal subject matter experts and external trade organizations in developing negotiation positions for SRP regarding regulatory and strategic issues.
  8. Provide intelligence, advice and counsel to the Senior Regulatory Manager, internal and external regulatory counsel and others in senior leadership on regulatory issues that affect the organization, including policy matters, image, key messages, internal and external communications.
  9. Assists in the development of compliance strategies and strategic alignment with regulatory requirements for SRP.
  10. Own/manage special projects assigned by the Senior Regulatory Manager and other Public Affairs executives, which may interface across multiple disciplines and functions.
  11. Draft summaries of FERC orders and technical conferences after completion of proper research, advise members of leadership on various FERC and reliability issues, Develop effective working relationships with internal clients, external consultants, industry organizations and members & staff of federal and state regulators.
  12. Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and regulatory filings to communicate policy analysis and recommendations to internal stakeholders (management, subject matter experts, senior leadership).
  13. Significant reading and ability to assimilate information on policy issues, trade press content, coalition and trade association activities, industry trends, and white paper article/ journals.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Strong ability to analyze complex regulatory documents and data to identify key issues and implications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey regulatory analysis and recommendations. 
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing reports and regulatory filings.
  • Ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to regulatory challenges. 
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing regulatory environments and priorities.

Prefer Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited program.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of professional level experience in FERC related matters.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.
