Performs a variety of duties related to the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of transmission and associated distribution systems, to provide continuous and dependable electric service to customers.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
The apprentice level is a training program consisting of classes, Computer Based Curriculum and on-the-job training to obtain the qualifications to achieve the journey (fully qualified) level of the job. As training is satisfactorily completed and performance meets expectations, the apprentice moves to higher levels of responsibility and correspondingly higher pay until the journey level is achieved.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Constructs and maintains transmission systems in accordance with approved construction standards and approved work methods.
Utilizes equipment, materials and manpower in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
Projects a positive company image by maintaining a good appearance and working relationship with internal and external customers.
Maintains and operates assigned vehicle used in performance of duties.
Attends and participates in safety meetings, schools and training sessions regarding safe and proper performance of duties.
Constructs and maintains transmission systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
Climb poles, set poles and string wire, utilizes and operates equipment (e.g., aerial bucket trucks, and other construction equipment), materials, and manpower in a safe, efficient and effective manner.
May operate a variety of electronic and other test equipment with a high degree of efficiency, as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Associate's Degree or certificate of completion in a Technical discipline (i.e. High Voltage/Power Line Technology/etc.); Or
High School Diploma/GED and prior military experience at the journey level in a craft technical/mechanical for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214; Or
High School Diploma/GED and 2 years utility lineman experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Possible exposure to hazardous noise due to use of heavy equipment.
Required to work at heights up to and exceeding three hundred fifty (350)feet.
Required to work with voltages up to 500 kV.
Required to work non- standard work schedules to include on-call, overtime, weekends, holidays, and call-outs.
Exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
Maintains or obtain all required certifications (e.g., class A switching, tower climbing, hook ladders).
Successfully complete Lineman and Switching Schools under the Apprentice Program.
Required to operate motor vehicle safely in all traffic, weather and light conditions.
May be required to work under hazardous conditions.
Requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Required to work away from home for extended periods, as needed.
