Job Summary:

The Manager of Load Forecasting is responsible for maintaining and improving Just Energy's load forecasts.  To accomplish these goals, the Manager will have a team dedicated to construction and interpretation of the models behind the forecasts.  Beyond mentoring the team and improving processes, the Manager will be in regular contact with teams both downstream and upstream along the data chain.  This job reports to the Director, Load Forecasting.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work with cross-functional teams and incorporate changes as required into existing models and processes.  Innovation and improvisation are key to success as this is a constantly changing environment. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Lead a team of Analysts and Data Scientists responsible for modelling customer behavior and future energy requirements.

·         Development and preparation of long term and short-term forecasting models for electricity and gas retail books in North America.

·         Construct new models and reporting methods to portray data accurately and accessibly across the organization.

·         Modify existing process to better identify and quantify forecast variance drivers and improve the overall accuracy of short and long-term forecasts including use of backcast vs actuals analysis.

·         Responsible for ensuring correct and appropriate Load Forecasting data sources and methods of analysis are validated, utilized, maintained, and disseminated through the organization.

·         Drive forward projects as needed including coordination with outside teams.

·         Provide timely and meaningful reporting as required.

·         Delegation of tasks to team members while following up and mentoring to ensure accuracy.

·         Ongoing modelling of market rules, assets, and customer delivery requirements.

·         Support margin reporting activities through volumetric analysis.

Requirements:

·         University degree in quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Economics, or Statistics. Advanced degree preferred.

·         5 years of experience with at least 3 years in the energy industry with a preference towards experience with both electricity and natural gas.

·         Understanding of ISO operations and utility tariffs preferred

·         Managerial experience considered an asset.

·         Well-spoken and a clear communicator with a demonstrated ability to communicate complicated concepts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.
