Description

The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I should have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.

The Engineer II position is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.

The SCADA engineer works with multiple groups within the Duke Energy organization, including System Operations, to perform both the design and implementation of programs to be executed on Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) devices. These devices convey the metering, alarming, and controls of a given substation and assists field technicians and System Operators in identifying where faults are located as well as troubleshooting and mitigation of issues on the Bulk Power System.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support multiple SCADA hardware platforms
  • Interface with P&C Engineering, Design, Field Resources, and Operation/Control Center
  • Read Protection Onelines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Create IO Summaries based on relay settings, drawings, and customer data; collaborate with P&C teammates and Operation/Control Center as needed for unique applications.
  • Develop SCADA configuration files for Transmission, Distribution and Customer Interconnect Stations
  • Develop SCADA configuration files on multiple hardware platforms
  • Adhere to internal and industry compliance and regulations
  • Provide commissioning and engineering support to field resources when required
  • Database entry of compliance and non-compliance data & perform Queries
  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.
  • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
  • Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.
  • Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.  Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.  Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
