Position: Propane Delivery Driver

Location: Salisbury, MD

This position is responsible to operate a bulk delivery truck in a safe manner consistent with all applicable codes and regulations. Cost effectively delivers propane gas while providing quality customer service. This also includes the delivery of propane gas to large industrial and commercial propane customers and CGS accounts.

What you'll be working on....

  • Operate truck and delivery equipment safely.

  • Deliver propane gas.

  • Perform pretrip and post trip safety inspections of vehicle and equipment.

  • Document findings of inspections and ensure appropriate action is taken in regards to any exceptions.

  • Prepare and maintain all appropriate documentation required of drivers by the Department of Transportation.

  • Observe all traffic rules and practice defensive driving techniques.

  • Observe all company, industry, and regulatory guidelines regarding the safe operation of equipment and the delivery of propane gas.

  • Deliver propane gas in a safe and cost effective manner.

  • Record deliveries, meter readings and tank percentages accurately.

  • Check credit status of customers prior to making deliveries when on call

  • Collect payments from customers and disconnect gas service as directed.

  • Keep the Delivery Manager and DM informed of inventory levels in various bulk plant tanks.

  • Prepare driver settlement reports on a daily basis and submit with work at the end of the day to the Delivery Manager.

  • Verify the driver settlement report balances properly and all information is recorded accurately.

  • Record payments received from customers as required.

  • Inspect bulk plants, plant equipment and delivery equipment.

  • Inform the Delivery Manager of any items which need attention or repair.

  • Report any unsafe conditions to management immediately.

  • Inspect equipment at customer locations to ensure compliance with company and industry standards and inform Delivery Manager of any conditions which are in violation of codes or suspected to be unsafe.

  • Ensure that the vehicles assigned are mechanically maintained and that they are kept clean to present a good company image.

  • Paint storage tanks.

  • Disconnect and reconnect gas service and relight appliances in accordance with Company policy.

  • Assist in the installation of tanks, equipment and appliances.

  • Deal with customers in a friendly manner.

  • Be sensitive to customers' situations and provide helpful assistance to resolve problems.

  • Be cooperative with management and co-workers.

  • Assist installation and service personnel.

Who you are...

  • You possess your CDL/HM/CLASS B/ MC/ EXP= one year or equivalent.

  • CDL, Class B - Hazmat endorsement required within three months of hire. Cost covered by Sharp!
  • Successful completion of company training programs. General understanding of the propane industry and all applicable codes and regulations. Knowledge of the properties of propane gas and all aspects of the loading and withdrawal of propane gas. Working knowledge of bulk plant and bulk truck equipment. Working knowledge of the proper procedures for the delivery of propane gas. Working knowledge of and ability to operate motor vehicles, telephones, calculators, and various hand and power tools utilized by operational personnel. Possess a mechanical aptitude. Possess a valid driver's license with tanks and hazardous materials endorsement. Satisfactory completion of all applicable Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Working knowledge of bulk plant and bulk truck equipment. Working knowledge of the proper procedures for the delivery of propane gas. Working knowledge of and ability to operate motor vehicles, telephones, Maintains all necessary DOT records and also maintains a good driving record with all required endorsements. As well as maintains all DOT logs and records

  • Maintains a good company image and good customer relations

  • Turns in all paper work in a timely manner.

  • Maintain truck in a safe and clean manner

  • Reports storage facility percentages to the district manager as loading during the work day

  • Responsible for company owned tools and equipment

  • Must maintain a class B drivers permit with all required endorsements

  • Other duties as assigned by the district manger

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS:   Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of bulk delivery equipment and all other operating equipment and tools utilized in performing the assigned tasks.

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIALS: Responsible for all materials utilized in performing the assigned tasks. Accountable for propane loaded and delivered and monies collected.

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR DIRECTION AND INSTRUCTION OF OTHERS:

  • Responsible for keeping customers informed of the proper handling and use of the products delivered.

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS:  Responsible for operating all equipment and performing all assigned tasks in a safe manner to insure the safety of co-workers and the general public.

  • HAZARDS: Exposure to various substances which could be hazardous if handled improperly.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Assigned tasks are normally performed in field surroundings with exposure to all types of weather conditions.
