Idaho Power Company (IPC) located near Oxbow, Oregon is looking for a Generation Specialist Apprentice II or Journeyman with an electrical background to join our Hells Canyon Maintenance crew. What does a Generation Specialist Apprentice II or Journeyman do for us?
- Performs the necessary maintenance functions essential for the safe and efficient operation of the area plants and facilities
- Works independently and in a team environment with other generation specialists, in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on the power facilities, buildings, hatcheries, roads, parks, and other associated equipment as well as completing necessary upgrades
- Responsible for welding, machine work, millwright, and electrical work at hydro-electric facilities and fish hatcheries

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
Knowledge of:
- Foundational electrical theory and the function, operation, troubleshooting and repair of complex equipment through use of drawings and instructional manuals
- Basic math including geometry, trigonometry, and algebra
- Machine alignment
- Measuring devices and tools
- Rigging practices
- Safe operation of hand and power tools used in the electrical trades
- AC and DC circuit theory, wiring diagrams, and control schematics
- Electrical test equipment (multi-meter, volt-ohm meter, current sources, breaker simulator, etc.) and testing methods, and troubleshooting techniques
Skills in:
- Maintenance and/or operation of power plants
- Inspection and maintenance of heavy equipment
- Welding and fabrication
- Pulling trailers and load securement
- Operation of computer systems, software, and programs
- Electrical work and practices
Ability to:
- Maintain high productivity with minimal supervision
- Perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions
- Communicate effectively
- Establish positive working relationships in a team-based environment
- Resolve conflict
- Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours
- Perform other duties/tasks as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Apprentice II
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- 1 year of demonstrated education/work experience in electrical, generation, power plants, welding, fabrication, or mechanical equipment operation and maintenance
OR
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, or military training and 6 months of power plant experience
OR
- Currently enrolled in IPC's Generation Apprenticeship Training Program
Preferred
- Experience in the electrical industry
- Journeyman Electrician license
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
- The ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 6 months of hire
- A valid Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
