ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Advisor, Emergency Management and Business Continuity to join our team. Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Emergency Management and Business Continuity, the Advisor, Emergency Management and Business Continuity is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of TransAlta's Emergency Management and Business Continuity Program (EMBCP). The Advisor works directly with the Supervisor of Emergency Management, collaborates with the Program Working Team, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure that TransAlta is prepared to respond to and recover from incidents that may impact our people, operations, reputation, and stakeholders.
This position is safety-sensitive therefore successful completion of required pre-employment testing is a condition of employment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Assist with the planning and coordination of EMBCP activities, including risk assessments, business impact analyses, plan development and updates, training and education, exercises and drills, reviews and audits, and reporting.

Support the implementation of the EMBCP Standard, and related procedures and guidelines across TransAlta's organization, business units, and facilities.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of the EMBC program by identifying and implementing best practices, lessons learned, corrective actions, and innovations.

Provide advice and guidance to plan owners, plan coordinators, and plan team members on EMBC Program requirements, expectations, and resources.

Participate in the Program Working Team and other EMBC Program committees or working groups as required.

Facilitate and/or support the activation, notification, escalation, and deactivation of EMBC Program plans and teams during incidents.

Monitor and analyze emerging threats, hazards, and incidents that may affect TransAlta and provide situational awareness and recommendations.

Liaise and coordinate with external agencies and partners on EMBC Program matters, such as regulators, emergency services, industry associations, and critical infrastructure providers.

Maintain and update EMBC Program documentation, records, and databases, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and policies.

Collaborate and coordinate with other functional areas, such as Health and Safety, Security, Environment, Operations, Communications, Legal, Finance, and Human Resources, on EMBC Program matters and initiatives.

Share and leverage EMBC Program knowledge, expertise, and resources across the organization, fostering a culture of preparedness, resilience, and learning.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

University Degree or diploma focusing on health, safety, emergency management, risk management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of 4 years of experience in health, safety, emergency management, and business continuity.

Proficient in core office programs (i.e.: MS office, SharePoint) and capable of learning key position specific applications.

Knowledge of emergency management and business continuity principles, standards, practices, and frameworks, such as CSA Z1600, ISO 22301, ICS, NIMS, AIIMS, etc.

Ability to conduct risk assessments, business impact analyses, and after-action reviews.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with various audiences and stakeholders, including senior management, plan teams, external agencies, and the public.

Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team environment, independently and with minimal supervision.

Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
