As our Programmer Developer, you will drive the vision and lead or participate in the design, development, support, and maintenance of essential computer applications and databases that underpin the daily financial operations and services at Southwest Power Pool. In this role, you'll research, design, and develop systems, while also uncovering automation opportunities to streamline our processes. Your contributions will enhance programming efficiencies, support vital software systems, and play a key role in ensuring the reliability of applications that have significant economic impact and safeguard against risks.

To be successful as our Programmer Developer, we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or and Information Technology - related field or equivalent job-related experience
  • Lead: Ten (10) years of applicable experience in Information Technology development and/or support-related roles
  • Senior: Six (6) years of applicable experience in Information Technology development and support, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Level II: Three (3) years of experience in Information Technology Development and Support
  • Level I: No experience
  • Experience in database management (Oracle, MongoDB, Netezza), ETL (Informatica), version control, scripting (Python), and testing (unit testing, integration testing, test-driven development) is required
  • Expert working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, UNIX or Linux operating systems, application development and support, and database management systems
  • Expert in one or more modern programming languages
  • Expert troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skill
  • Expert written and oral communication skill
  • Expert working knowledge of SDLC and project life cycle methods and practices
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedure

Preferred:

  • Five (5) or more years applicable utility industry experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of SPP's core business model
  • Experience with Java programming, Spring Framework, JavaScript, React, Material UI, RESTful APIs, and Agile development. Proficiency in secure coding practices and operating systems, particularly Linux.
