Job Duties:
Coal Program Management:
- Coordinate coal, railcar, and transportation procurement.
- Evaluate bids for cost, terms, and conditions.
- Implement corporate risk management policies and Dodd-Frank compliance reviews.
Trading and Scheduling:
- Execute hedges and assist with hedge system administration.
- Buy, sell, and schedule physical natural gas to support generating facilities.
- Manage fuel oil trades as needed.
Industry Monitoring:
- Stay updated on energy news, industry publications, and utility IRPs.
- Assess impacts on OPC and provide strategy recommendations.
Co-Owner Interaction:
- Serve as OPC's backup representative on the Scherer Fuel Committee.
- Maintain communication with Georgia Power (plant operator) as well as other co-owners.
Billing and Reporting:
- Validate and investigate complex billing reports and coal stock ledgers.
- Resolve discrepancies with Georgia Power.
Process Integration:
- Develop integrated processes among internal functions.
- Provide technical support on coal, gas, and oil issues.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in creating transportation, gas price, and coal budgets.
- Conduct quarterly coal forecasting.
Dispatch Rate Communication:
- Set and communicate monthly dispatch rates for OPC-generating units.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 1-3 years of relevant energy industry experience (coal, natural gas, utility operations). Experience with coal procurement, natural gas supply, and pipeline assets is preferred. Knowledge of electric power generation and co-op structure is a plus.
Equivalent Experience: 2 years in an analytics-heavy role such as engineering, planning, forecasting, finance, audit, or accounting.
Specialized Skills:
- Familiarity with co-op structure and natural gas/power market economics.
- Strong organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong Excel and programming skills preferred.
