The Material Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and performing warehouse functions within assigned areas. Duties include taking responsibility for receiving and issuing materials, completing all paperwork on time, stocking new and salvaged materials, counting inventory, maintaining a high level of housekeeping, sorting and staging scrap materials, interacting with external and internal customers professionally, and other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive incoming shipments of raw and purchased materials by inspecting deliveries and checking items against packing lists and other documentation. Discrepancies will be noted and brought to the attention of the Materials Coordinator and the Purchasing department as soon as identified.
- Store incoming materials appropriately and promptly and ensure there is an accurate count of actual inventory levels.
- Provide the Senior Clerk with accurate documentation of receipts and shipments.
- Working with the Materials Coordinators in maintaining a periodic or perpetual inventory of stock as it is received or issued, including stock rotation when appropriate.
- Operate heavy vehicles, including forklifts, motorized stock pickers, and material tuggers, to transport goods and materials from one area to another in a safe manner.
- Process orders from requisitions and dispense stock items. Follow the CR materials list, gather and stage materials for future use. Transport and deliver items and supplies to and from remote job sites and office locations as required.
- Assist in unloading unused and salvaged materials from customer trucks or trailers.
- Sort returned materials and return unused items to stock.
- Recondition used items for reuse when feasible and classify scrap to receive the highest value when sold.
- Maintain a high level of housekeeping, including keeping aisles open for access and travel and storing items in a safe, allowing easy distribution and inventory counting.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent education is required.
- Recent experience operating material moving equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, scales, and related machinery required.
- Thorough working knowledge of inventory transactions, appropriate stocking procedures, order pulling, location systems, and storage and handling methods is required.
- Microsoft Office experience required.
- Experience and knowledge of stocking and order-pulling procedures required.
Certification and Other Requirements
- A Forklift certification is preferred or will need to be obtained within 60-90 days.
Physical Demands
- The Material Clerk will operate warehouse equipment and use proper safety procedures and high housekeeping standards to eliminate potential safety hazards.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but hearing protection is provided as needed.
- Required to lift and manipulate weights up to 70 lbs.
- Will work inside and outside on all types of terrain and weather conditions in a shop environment.
