PRIMARY DUTIES:
Performs work on the transmission, distribution, street lighting, underground system, and customer premises necessary to restore interrupted electric service; removes, clears, or guards any hazard endangering life and property involving Company facilities; performs manual switching at the various locations on the system as directed by the Load and/or Service Dispatchers or supervisor in authority.
Performs duties such as:
1. Tests, patrols, inspects, operates, repairs, replaces equipment and lines to maintain safe, continuous, and efficient operation of Company facilities.
2. Repairs streetlights and reddy sentinel lights when called in by the public.
3. Performs load and voltage tests to determine adequacy of facilities and service.
4. Emergency and routine switching as directed for putting in and taking out of service lines and equipment; sectionalizing, and load transfer, and,
restoration of service; providing safe clearance for workers or public.
5. Connects or disconnects customer service as directed; makes temporary or permanent repairs as required.
6. Issues follow-up orders for temporary, or permanent repairs or replacement to various responsible divisions of the Company.
7. Advises customers of appropriate action to be taken for permanent repairs to defective electrical facilities or equipment.
8. Operates truck, reads blueprints and instructions, climbs towers and poles; maintains good customer relations and keeps adequate truck
working stock, tools, personal protective safety equipment available and in good condition.
9. Coordinates activities with other employees, first responders, and customers for maximum safety, economical and reliability of electric service.
In addition to the primary duties listed above, the employee may be called upon to perform other work as circumstances require.
Must know and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicant must have been a first-class A or B lineman or first-class A service lineman with previous experience as first-class A or B lineman; be willing to work from any of the Company's operating centers; work any assigned shift; and/or holiday and various scheduled days off. Must pass the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) aptitude test. Must meet standards for and complete requirements for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) as defined by the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986. Must know and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work performance. Other qualifications such as physical fitness, attendance, safety, and performance records will be considered.
Additional consideration will be given for the following job-related training or experience:
1. Experience in underground service system; and
2. Any other qualifications contributing to the applicant's ability to do the job.
