Summary
Subject to direction, supervises and leads Pump Storage Operators, Senior Electricians, Electricians and Operators in the performance of all maintenance and operation of a remote power plant site including highly skilled troubleshooting work, emergency flood control operation, abnormal system and plant operating procedures. Routine preventative maintenance programs, routine operating procedures and normal reporting and record keeping systems of a Division's operating unit. The position is distinguished by the fact that the employee supervises and is responsible for the training and work of others in all the areas described above as well as performing work in all facets of these areas.

What You'll Do
- Supervises and leads in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment such as motors, voltage regulators, generators, liquid rheostats, transformers, exciters, switchgear, and relay logic controls while equipment is operating.
- Supervises and performs emergency and regular maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Supervises and performs troubleshooting in the electrical systems of the plant including the monitoring, logic protective circuitry, relaying systems, hard wire logic systems and electrical control board controls.
- Supervises and leads in performing the necessary plant switching during system emergencies, plant emergencies and for all outages and clearances on lines or buses from and including line side breakers into the plant proper.
- Supervises and leads in the clearing of all plant equipment and the issuing of all clearances both mechanical and electrical for maintenance work performed by outside Divisions such as Mechanical C&M, Electrical C&M, Meter and Relaying Divisions and Structural C&M and contracted Crews.
- Maintains adequate records of maintenance performed in the plant and camp, maintaining inventory of spare parts and supplies necessary for a remote and isolated plant.
- Consults and cooperates with other departments in the planning and execution of all plant maintenance, both mechanical and electrical.
- Prepares detailed functional test procedures requiring involved working in complicated hard wire logic circuits to isolate problems and satisfactory prove out design changes.
- Assists other employees doing related work during vacations, sick leaves or as the workloads vary and are adjusted by supervisory personnel.

Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paperwork. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
What It Takes To Succeed
- Basic knowledge of electricity and the application of electrical theory used in the design of hydro power plant generating equipment.
- Considerable knowledge as to the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of all types of electrical and mechanical equipment used in hydro power and pumped-storage facilities.
- Thorough knowledge or plant electrical systems, circuits, and control logic with the ability to locate and isolate problems working from blueprints, writing diagrams and schematic drawings.
- Ability and skills to use various electrical test equipment and instruments as maintenance aids in performing troubleshooting and non-destructive testing of hydro plant equipment; such as meggars, portable transformer gas analyzers, decade boxes, vacuum tube and other volt meters, resistivity and conductivity meters, current meters, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of switchboard operations, equipment and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of mechanical operation of Hydro power plant equipment.
- Working knowledge of the theory of all hydro power plant equipment including electrical, mechanical, and control equipment.
- Ability to assign and supervise work of other skilled and unskilled workmen.
- Ability to detect irregularities in all operating plant mechanical equipment.
- Ability to compile accurate and concise reports of work performed.
- A thorough knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety methods pertaining to the work performed in a hydro power plant.
Experience
Two to three years' experience as pumped-storage operator and demonstrated proficiency in maintenance troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment in a pump-storage hydro plant or equivalent experience.
Education
High School, GED or Equivalent.
