Job Summary

The Engineering Tech I, Power System will provide technical support in projects, processes, and quality control involving revenue metering facilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proficiently use a variety of technical equipment including meters, instruments, and electrical testing equipment to investigate and resolve customer electric service complaints.
  • Perform scheduled field inspections and testing of instrument-rated metering equipment. Coordinate repair/replacement of equipment when issues are found.
  • Install, replace, repair, and maintain meters, solid-state electronic apparatus, pulse initiators, demand receivers, and related metering and communications equipment on de-energized circuits and circuits energized at 600 volts and below using proper protective equipment.
  • Complete Field Service work orders when required. This includes but is not limited to, NPC's, connects, disconnects, UTAP, Hi-Lo/Secure reads, crossed meter investigations, IPC/ONT troubleshooting, and other department orders within the qualification.
  • Perform Scout/Bird Dog duties during storm restoration.
  • Perform Meter shop duties including but not limited to; meter testing, communications testing, RMA meters, and IPCs, database entry, meter
  • Understand and adhere to EPB metering standards.
  • Understand and adhere to the appropriate written safety rules and procedures. shop inventory and restocking materials.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a two-year accredited Associate of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (ASEE).
  • Mechanical aptitude, decision making, oral and written communication skills to facilitate excellent customer service, flexibility, and team working skills are required.
  • Knowledge of the basic office tools provided on each PC such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. In addition, must become proficient, in a reasonable.
  • amount of time, in applications such as Microsoft Outlook, EnQuesta, GT viewer, Mobile, and any other application pertinent to the daily operations of the Department.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of meters, instruments, and electrical testing equipment.

CERTIFICATION(S) AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of a variety of meters, instruments, and electrical testing equipment.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to safely drive vehicles of various sizes below Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 26,000 Lbs.
  • Ability to interpret maps, sketches, prints, and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, probability, and statistics. Must have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Applications of such concepts include, but are not limited to, determining the size and ratio of current and voltage transformers, determining constants, and meter form type applicable based on customer load requirements.
  • Ability to plan and organize work and maintain compliance with productivity expectations.
  • Ability to work flexible or extended hours as necessary or required.
  • Received a "Meets Expectations" or higher overall rating on last annual performance appraisal and no disciplinary actions (verbal or written) during previous appraisal period.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Required to work long hours and work and drive in all adverse weather conditions.
  • Required to lift heavy material and equipment and climb and work off ladders up to 32-foot in length while adhering to company safety guidelines.
