This is a hybrid-remote position reporting to Cedar Rapids, IA.
What you will do

Leads the design and layout of electrical substations, including equipment selection, sizing, and configuration. Ensure adherence to company or client standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures in preparing design drawings.

Ensures compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations in all substation designs and projects.

Reviews and approves engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports for substation projects, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant codes and standards. Review and approve construction documents, bills of materials, and construction specifications.

Prepares detailed engineering calculations including grounding, Alternating Current (AC) loading, Direct Current (DCC loading, bus sizing, cable sizing, etc. following standard methods and principles to ensure the integrity and reliability of substation designs.

Evaluates and selects substation equipment and materials, considering cost, performance, and project requirements.

Prepares and issues requests for material or services to potential suppliers. Assists in the evaluation of proposals and makes recommendations for supplier selection based on quality, cost, and delivery considerations.

Conducts site visits and inspections to assess existing substation conditions, identify potential issues, and propose effective solutions.

Directs external consultants, vendors, and contractors to ensure the successful execution of substation design projects.

Collaborates with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective project delivery. Manages project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation.

Prepares technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates for substation projects, outlining the scope, timeline, and resources required.

Develops, implements, and maintains standardized design practices, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, and template drawings.

Conducts incident investigations and root cause analyses for equipment failures or incidents, proposing corrective actions and preventive measures to prevent recurrence.

Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission Required
Required Experience

5 years of related experience

Project management experience, along with ability to deal with subcontractors and cross-functional teams; may have expertise in a particular area of the discipline.
