General Purpose of Work. Performs, under general supervision, installation, operation, and maintenance of substation and system electronic, control and relay devices, equipment and appurtenances.
General Duties. Installs, wires, connects, tests, adjusts, operates, trouble-shoots, repairs all types of electromechanical, semisolid state and solid state, metering, control, supervisory control, automatic control, remote control and relay devices, carrier equipment, radio or microwave equipment. Recognizes and reports details of improper wiring in transmission and distribution substations and Company control centers. Performs housekeeping duties at transmission and distribution substations. Performs driver maintenance on and operates Company vehicles. Operates and maintains manually and electrically operated hand tools. Develops complete familiarity with electro-magnetic voltmeters and ammeters, electronic volt-ohmmeters, digital voltmeters, phantom load boxes, potentiometer, galvanometers, oscilloscope, transistor, and diode testers. Assists in miscellaneous repair work when assigned. Performs other incidental and related duties as assigned.
Qualifications. Two years' formal training with an accredited electronic training school plus a high school diploma or evidence acceptance to the Company of on-the-job training, in-service training, or demonstrated capability to perform the work of this classification. Must have aptitude and learning ability to read and understand electronic, control, and relay diagrams and circuitry. Must be neat in appearance. Must have and keep a Wisconsin driver's license. Must have stamina for working in substations alone and under adverse weather conditions. Must be reasonably available for overtime and emergency work assignments. Must maintain his place of residence in the Company's service area.
Knowledge and Skills to be Acquired. Learns, readily adapts to, and uses new equipment, tools, apparatus, and techniques. Acquires a good knowledge of the Company's electric system and service area and demonstrates the knowledge to relate the components of the electric system to one another. Must learn and practice all safety rules which apply to his work.
