Supervises the daily functions, provides daily guidance, focus, and leadership to a team of database or storage administrators for the maintenance and reliability of multiple Petabytes of storage.
JOB DUTIES
- Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and performance management of staff.
- Frequently interacts with direct reports and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others.
- Provides direct supervision to professional individual contributors and/or skilled, support individual contributors. Acts as an advisor to department and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. A small portion of time is normally spent performing individual tasks related to the department. Typically has full responsibility for direct reports.
- May provide input to budgeting and financial decisions that impact the department. Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
Provides daily guidance, focus and leadership to a team of database administrators. Supervises database activities including monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning, managing disk space usage and memory allocations for Oracle and\or SQL Server database management systems
Collaborates with other technical staff within IT to provide solutions and coordinate changes. Communicates with departments outside of IT. Plans and executes longer term projects
Reviews and approves staff timesheets and leave requests
Scheduling work for employees
On-the-job training and coaching employees
Makes decisions about resolving or escalating production issues, allocating staff resources and assigning priorities
Manages schema changes and implementation, administers Oracle and\or SQL Server security, and monitors other database administration responsibilities
Oversees creation\development of databases within architecture and under the guidelines of overall technical goals of the data warehousing team
Provides input to the overall enterprise based strategies of Database Administration
Guides and assists in the creation of and adherence to standards, policies, and procedures for Database Administration
Interfaces with key groups in the company to ensure quality product delivery (example, project managers, application and technical architects, usability engineers, other development groups, business end users, and external users as appropriate)
Guides the team on emerging technologies with ability to use them
Provides technical support for designated database environments
Directly assists in daily responsibilities and workload of the team
Ensures audit compliance for the database servers
Clearly communicates complex technical concepts verbally and in writing
EXPERIENCE
- Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience and 1 year in a leadership role preferred in excess of degree requirements. Minimum years of job related experience can include time in leadership roles.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in Oracle database administration in a multi-database production and development environment on Unix and Windows platforms
- Possesses and maintains technical proficiency in the following key technical areas: Oracle DBMS, Oracle Real Application Clusters, UNIX, SQL Tuning, Scripting, Disaster Recovery
- Prefer experience with SQL Server and other database platforms
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree : Computer Science, MIS or related field (Required)
- or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
