Description
The Climate Action Plan Governance Consultant supports engagement with key external partners and internal subject matter experts to facilitate grid-readiness for widespread electrification and high performance of the Climate Advisory Services initiative to assist customers in transitioning their homes and businesses to net zero emissions. The incumbent also maintains a high level of expertise on climate action initiatives locally, nationally and globally, and uses those insights to guide the ongoing refinement and development of Toronto Hydro's Climate Action Plan and associated initiatives, as well as streamlining internal processes to facilitate rapid customer electrification. In collaboration with Government Relations, the incumbent also supports engagements between City and Toronto Hydro leaders to help manage Toronto Hydro's involvement in various City Council committees and government working groups to influence climate action policy and safeguard Toronto Hydro's interests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in monitoring the overall performance of the Climate Action Plan and related corporate decisions and resolutions of City Council, as well as risks and opportunities that could affect Toronto Hydro's attainment of internal and external climate action targets or other outcomes
- Supports the establishment of clear metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and targets to track progress on climate action plan objectives and presents regular progress reports to senior management, demonstrating the organization's commitment to climate action and its achievement towards set targets
- Acts as a key contributor in the preparation of all external reporting documents including but not limited to the annual Climate Action Plan Status Report
- Collaborates with subject matter experts to extract technical information and transform it into easily understandable content tailored for public audiences.
- In collaboration with internal subject matter experts, leads the development and execution of initiatives to identify and implement potential internal process improvements that can enhance service to customers looking to electrify their homes and businesses
- Stays informed about emerging electrification technologies and trends, supporting the integration of relevant advancements into customer support strategies and internal processes.
- Collaborates with Media & Public Relations, Customer Care, Key Accounts, Government Relations, and other groups as appropriate to develop aligned positions and messaging on climate related technologies and topics.
- Supports and manages engagements with the City of Toronto Environment & Climate Division, particularly as it relates to the Climate Action Plan, the City's TransformTO Net Zero Strategy, and related climate matters
REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree in business, environmental studies, engineering, and/or public policy (Preferred)
- Advanced degree in business, environmental studies, engineering, law, and/or public policy (Preferred)
- Seven (7) or more years' experience working on climate initiatives and/or within energy operations
- Demonstrated experience working with clients or senior leaders on highly complicated or sensitive matters, files
- Experience in a utility, consultancy or governmental body is an asset
- Superior knowledge of the internal operations of electrical utilities including core processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of climate action, energy, and regulatory processes, policy and structure
- Results-oriented approach, with the experience and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team in a considerate way, including the ability to mediate and find common ground in areas of disagreement
- Strong understanding of government processes, procedures and institutions as they relate to Toronto Hydro
- Demonstrated high performance in building relationships and effective partnerships within and across organizations
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with well-established stakeholder management skills
- Proven customer focus with demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with internal customers, external providers, and industry contacts
- Strong organizational skills and ability to track, monitor and report results to senior management in a fast-paced environment
- Superior research and analytical skills
