The Network Foreman is responsible for providing direction, coordination, and work ethic leadership to an individual and a group of individuals assigned to a crew to maintain and/or improvements to EPB substations, UG network infrastructure (including manhole systems outside the network area), and telecommunication facilities. This position is also responsible for crew performance and the individual performance of the crew members.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct crew in a safe manner.
- Ensure that all crew members, as well as themselves, follow all safety rules as laid out by the company while performing the construction, installation, checking, and maintenance of EPB substation, network underground, and/or telecommunications equipment.
- Plan work for maximum efficiency of assigned personnel.
- Meet productivity requirements by Division VP, AVP, and/or Department Manager.
- Understand that crew performance, efficiency, quality of work performed, and actions are the responsibility of the crew Network Foreman.
- Responsible as a skilled craftsman and technician to ensure system reliability and safety by using and interpreting established testing processes and procedures.
- Must be able to interpret results and prescribe appropriate maintenance or repair activities for power system equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and manuals; write requisitions for materials and parts; make changes on blueprints and see that all working copies are changed; and fill in needed information on job orders upon completion of the job and turn in to the supervisor.
- Responsible for all administrative work, maintain updated and accurate records, and efficiently complete all assigned jobs.
- Oversee and direct loading and hauling of electrical equipment, use of cranes, boom trucks, and hoisting equipment, rigging of heavy equipment, digging of trenches and ditches, pouring of concrete, and installation of conduit and plastic duct and pre-cast manholes.
- Perform work on energized secondary using proper safety techniques.
- Understand the installation and maintenance of street light standards, fixtures, controls, and circuits.
- Contact customers to arrange for outages and clearances and coordinate installation of electrical facilities on construction sites with electrical contractors.
- Responsible for testing, transporting, filtering, and proper handling and disposal of transformer oil and oil-filled devices.
- Work during system emergencies and scheduled activities to prevent schedule delays or customer inconveniences a minimum of 70% of the time, including working in departments other than your regularly assigned department.
- Instruct electrician apprentices, electrician helpers, and others assigned to the group in on-the-job training.
- Ensure that the crew adheres to safety regulations and that proper care is given to vehicles/equipment assigned to the crew.
- Give performance appraisal information and provide input to departmental leadership regarding employee performance and emerging issues that may require corrective action.
- Perform duties of cable splicer and/or electrician as required.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience as an electrician in the Preventive Maintenance Department of EPB or equivalent as determined by the department manager.
- A qualified Underground Cable Splicer.
Certifications and Other Requirements
- A valid "Class A" Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all and to work with an overall goal of customer satisfaction (internal and external).
- Ability to learn, within six months, basic computer skills for entering data and/or reports, in addition to learning the operation of the mobile workforce laptop for OMS/CAD.
