This position is covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. Prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, installs and repairs telecommunications systems and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates activities between various corporate telecommunication functional areas
Visits vendors to learn about available products, enhancements, or services
Analyzes business functions and makes recommendations that address the current and future telecommunication needs of the corporation
Monitors PBX system performance to assure the dependable and uninterrupted operation of telephone communications
Corrects PBX alarm conditions
Identifies and replaces malfunctioning or inoperative equipment such as circuit cards or processing units and performs repairs and preventative maintenance
Determines which backup components should be maintained in stock
Troubleshoots entire communications system to determine if problems are telephone hardware or cabling
Develops an emergency plan to deal with a catastrophic event
Oversees or assists in installation of PBX hardware
Sets up new users and relocates existing users with telephone extensions, calling features, voice mail, and access codes
Terminates cable on cross connects, hubs, and routers
Reads technical manuals and brochures to determine whether equipment meets establishment requirements
Tests and evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems
COMPETENCIES:
Expert knowledge of telecommunication troubleshooting equipment and techniques including those used by common carriers
Expert knowledge of the public switched network including FCC rules and regulations and appropriate state and local tariffs
Expert knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques
Ability to manage large projects using approved project management and reporting techniques
Ability to work with service and maintenance vendors
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with five to seven years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess current, legally valid driver¿s license and meet the Company¿s driving record requirements.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos
Ability to write complex correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in group situations and respond to questions from customers, clients, management, and other employees of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Expert knowledge of telecommunication theory and practice
Expert knowledge of voice communication equipment including but not limited to that delineated above
In-depth knowledge of all corporate telecommunication systems
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
