Job Summary

This position is an external interface for AEP with Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and associated stakeholders. Responsible for leading advocacy at PJM within assigned stakeholder groups (committees, task forces, etc.) Responsible for understanding the impact of potential changes to transmission planning, interconnection and generation development and facilitating changes to RTO policies and processes that advance AEP's business strategies.

Position is responsible for developing relationships with RTO staff, other transmission owners, potential business partners, regulators, industry groups, and across AEP Operating Companies and AEP Grid Solutions. Coordinating with AEP Regulatory Services and other AEP business units on RTO issues and advocate such company positions at the applicable RTO.

Effective written and verbal communication in this role is critical. Individual will frequently represent AEP in RTO forums and in working with stakeholder. Individual will develop written and verbal communications to AEP's senior leadership, investor relations, external stakeholder, regulators and business partners. This includes summary and analysis of key RTO initiatives in the form of summaries, talking points, and position papers, as well as advocacy presentations to advance AEP's positions with key stakeholders.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions & Tasks:

- This position will predominantly focus on transmission and interconnection-related matters at PJM but may contribute to or be assigned tasks within any of the RTO's where AEP operates.

- Coordinate with AEP business units on policy issues and advocate AEP's positions at assigned RTOs.

- Develop and provide expertise on Transmission issues including wholesale cost recovery, transmission planning, operations, and cost allocation.

- Develop and provide expertise on Market issues including capacity market issues, Generation Interconnection, and implementation of best practices for the organization.

- Coordinate cross functional teams to identify and implement best practices driven by RTO policy changes.

- Represent AEP on EEI, NATF, and NERC committees and taskforces, as assigned.

- Provide necessary testimony support on transmission matters in rate cases.

- Research, analyze and assess the impact of emerging issues to senior level management.

- Build teams and networks and effectively leverage such networking within the company, other peer companies, and professional organizations.

- Facilitate communication and issue resolution between AEP's corporate departments, partners, and Business Unit project groups.

Basic Requirements:

EducationBachelor's degree in engineering, business administration or related field.  Master's degree in business administration, engineering or public administration is preferred but not required. 

Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in a progressively responsible position in an electric utility or related experience in working with regulatory and/or RTO matters.

Additional Requirements:

- Travel may be required based on ongoing activities, but not extensive.

- Ability to effectively interface with senior and executive-level stakeholders.

- Strong analytical, oral and written communication and presentation skills.

- Self-starter with a proactive mentality and positive attitude.

- Ability/willingness to work beyond normal business hours when needed.

- Ability to keep commercially sensitive items confidential.
