Description

Primary Purpose:

Manage and oversee the Wildfire Mitigation Program (WMP) Team. Lead various wildfire mitigation programs including supporting regulatory activities and legislation related activities pertaining to fire mitigation. Lead collaboration efforts with other utilities external stakeholders. Develop innovative ways of advancing existing wildfire mitigation programs and strategically create new solutions. During Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events, support the Utility Incident Commander in a leadership role by providing timely updates in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Work with Contractors through the Contract Manager directly or their back office support for any assigned work, to lead status meetings with the contract manager to review progress and quality of assigned work. Assist as needed with providing SDG&E protocols, scope of work, and contract adjustments where valid and approved by SDG&E.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage WMP de-energization activities and ensure compliance-related tasks are performed within tolerance. Provide guidance regarding regulation changes and develop and update department procedures. Oversee preparation of all required documentation for California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and internal audits. Participate as a subject matter expert (SME) during interviews with auditors.
  • Develop, train, and oversee WMP team to ensure execution and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate resources to implement WMP Order Instituting Rulemaking (OIR) to improve fire safety statewide. Develop successful wildfire mitigation and vegetation management regulatory and legislative outcomes. Lead WMP-related activities to ensure full compliance with regulatory guidelines and risk reduction efforts. Manage projects with cross-functional groups involved in supporting WMP efforts. Provide technology, weather data and other information to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and special working groups, such as Reliability Assessment Team and Enterprise Risk Group, to continually improve fire mitigation activities. Develop statewide utility collaboration to help advance wildfire safety. Represent the company in regulatory workshops and technical summits.
  • Support EOC activities in planning and training before, during and after events. Distribute EOC-related data to stakeholders.
  • Develop overall WMP budget for the three-year filing period and track progress. Manage group budget. Review budget reports and forecast future spending.
  • This role develops and approves group budget up to $500K. Assists in the development of budgets for Wildfire mitigation teams across the company that are submitted to CPUC - $480 million capital, and $150 million O&M per year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications

Hybrid Schedule:

  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 8 years - Relevant experience in engineering and operations.
  • 3 years - Supervisory, project management, or lead experience in engineering and/or operations.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects.
  • Must demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong leadership and personnel management skills required.
  • Knowledge of the CPUC regulatory process is desirable.
  • Strong financial acumen required.
  • For offsite meetings and/or inspections, may be required to drive a company car. A California driver's license and good driving record are required.
  • Availability to work outside of normal business hours as needed, during Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events, to support the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
  • Travel is required within the service territory for offsite meetings and/or inspections.
  • Able to walk and walk on rough terrain for wildfire mitigation inspections.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 3 years - Experience in a regulatory environment with a utility.
  • Experience in project management, compliance or regulatory field.
  • PE License.
