JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Fleet Vehicle & Equipment Technician.

Key accountabilities include working in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations: Services, installs, troubleshoots, and maintains, all 'off-road and on-road' Transport and Work Equipment (T&WE). Operates a variety of portable, stationary and hand tools specific to Transport and Work Equipment. Assists in the development and modification of parts an maintains inventory including documentation. This document does not limit management's ability to assign work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Service, maintain, inspect, diagnose, repairs, modify and move all ' off - road and on- road' T&WE. Determine work and parts required to ensure equipment is in service when needed and the installation of specialized auxiliary devices and associated equipment
  • Operates a variety of portable and stationary tools for the purposes of, boring, cutting, reaming, grinding, drilling and welding, rigging and hoisting, specific to Transport and Work Equipment.
  • Complete any necessary certifications of equipment or systems required to meet internal and external regulations.
  • Install and test communications equipment
  • Assess equipment for the purposes of identifying parts and initiating parts orders.
  • Assist in the specification and evaluation of new transport and work equipment and replacement components. Assist in designing/fabricating and modifying T&WE.
  • Work with information by use of sketches, written reports, blueprints and specifications.
  • Carry out work protection code (WPC) activities up to the level trained.
  • Carry out good housekeeping and fire prevention practices in the performance of their work
  • Assist in the preparation of draft maintenance documentation for approval by higher authority, such as procedures, spare parts lists, training manuals, maintenance records and various reports.
  • Accountable for the health, safety & well being of self and others, as per established technical/operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems.

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12 or equivalent and 8000 hour apprenticeship certified as a Class A Mechanic and in addition a Heavy Equipment Endorsement is required.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years of experience as an Equipment Technician or similar role 
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks in a time-effective manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work alone or as a collaborative team player
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Positive, professional, and enthusiastic demeanor
