What you'll do
* As an experienced professional engineer, investigates, analyzes, and solves challenging or unusual engineering problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in unique ways.
* As an experienced professional engineer, perform detailed engineering design and engineering guidance and support during construction, including field reviews. * Participates in the operational planning and/or engineering of electrical utility installations and develops specialized expertise in the field of civil engineering.
* Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues in order to determine relative priorities and to assess the impact of the work on others.
* Plans and manages resources and coordinates and completes phases of work to ensure that commitments are met.
* Participates in the public consultation process as required.
* May chair meetings to address engineering problems.
* Requires a knowledge of cost control and other administrative procedures and a knowledge of related fields of engineering and construction.
* Work is assigned to the Senior Engineer in terms of defined objectives and budget limitations and the advice of the supervisor is sought in critical areas which impact the work of others. Must be able to work independently.
* Completed work is accepted as accurate, with overall plans and recommendations reviewed for feasibility, soundness of judgment and achievement of objectives. * Assigns work and gives instructions, advice and technical guidance to other engineers and technical support staff. Must excel in a collaborative team environment. * Reviews the work in progress of assigned Hydro staff, consultants and contractors and reviews completed work to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results and adherence to accepted engineering practice.
* Act as Civil Professional of Record / Owner's Engineer for Distribution Engineering.
* Act as Civil Technical Leader for Distribution Engineering - including accountability for Civil Safety by Design reviews.
* Identify and address unusual and complex civil engineering design issues or provide technical solutions to issues identified by the Project Lead.
* Promote consistent civil engineering design by collaborating with the Distribution Standards Team.
* Review and evaluate opportunities for improvements to design practices and standards.
* Champion and support technical issues raised by the civil team and pursue long term solutions to issues.
* Review of documents / correspondence in support of Distribution Engineering:

- RFPs for external civil consultants - assist with scope and specifications
- Preliminary/conceptual designs created by Distribution staff
- Detailed designs produced by junior engineers / EITs / Co-ops / technologists
- Reports / assessments produced by Distribution staff
* Distribution Engineering Civil Engineer representative for internal and external stakeholder engagement, including meetings, presentations, etc
* Respond to site specific conditions identified by civil inspector resulting in the need to implement a non-standard design or engineering review of site applicability of the design.
