Are you ready to make an impact and make your mark?  If so, then this role might be for you!  We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Manager Finance and Accounting to join our dynamic team.  We are looking for a thoughtful candidate who has the enthusiasm for managing and helping people, as well as getting their hands in the details to support their team.  This role has the flexibility and openness to work on a variety of assignments, ideating new ways to complete deliverables and being part of a team that is in the process of strategic finance transformation.  The Manager, Finance and Accounting should be passionate about process improvement, a self-starter, keen to grow, learn and develop and thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment.  This individual will be a key business partner responsible for delivering value-added analysis and meaningful financial/operational reporting that leads to insightful business decision making and effective performance management.
This role will be part of our hybrid work force with office workspace located at our Calgary Office (320 17 Avenue SW, Calgary Alberta) with the relocation to our Airdrie office (15 Kingsview Rd SE) within the next 2-3 years. In office days have been designated as Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with work from home days as Mondays and Fridays. 

DESCRIPTION: 
Under the general direction of the Senior Manager Finance, the Manager Finance and Accounting will work on a variety of assignments, ideating new ways to complete deliverables and lead the team through a strategic finance transformation. This role will be a key business partner responsible for implementing strategies in delivering value-added analysis and meaningful financial/operational reporting that leads to insightful business decision making and effective performance management.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to): 
Leadership:
   Lead, manage, coach, and motivate staff; this includes providing direction, expertise and advice to employees, identifying employee training requirements, and formally managing the performance of employees.
   Manage all elements of employee relations, including working closely with Human Resources on hiring, terminations, training, and performance appraisals for the employee file, administering progressive discipline, and resolving labour relations issues and/or grievances.
   Provide guidance, direction, and coaching for team members. 
   Drive resource and capacity management across the teams to support projects and allocation of assignments.
   Be a positive force for change, identify opportunities to partner with the business unit teams to continually improve the company's financial performance.
   Identify and leverage individual strengths and potential within the team.
   Facilitate team discussions around departmental plans and their contributions toward common goals.
   Set clear expectations and allow team members to take ownership of their areas of responsibility.
   Evaluate recommendations from the team to resolve challenging issues and generate new ideas to streamline or automate processes to continuously improve service delivery while maintaining controls.
   Provide leadership to a group of advisors/analysts to enhance Financial Planning and Analysis capability.
Financial Accounting and Planning
   Lead in-depth financial analysis to provide valuable insights into the company's financial performance, identifying trends and generating reports that inform business decision-making.
   Provide recommendations for improvements based on thorough analysis, this includes leading changes to processes, or strategies to enhance overall business performance.
   Manage the development, enhancement, and maintenance of SAP to meet financial reporting needs. 
   Evaluate opportunities and implement process improvements, including, but not limited to the enhancement and automation of reporting by leveraging technology.
   Contribute to the organization's operational and strategic objectives, along with strategic projects and initiatives in a manner which ensures compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks and generally accepted accounting principles, ensuring that sound internal controls are in place to manage risk 
   Ensure accuracy in the application of financial and accounting policies under U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) to reflect a truthful representation of the Company's financial position.
   Lead and delegate the month-end and quarter-end close processes and review that all accounting allocations are appropriately made and documented.
   Review monthly, quarterly, and annual Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting ("ICFR), including balance sheet reconciliations. 
   Provide support for the Company's initiative for internal controls over sustainability reporting. 
   Support Delegation of Authorities compliance for capital projects.
   Provide leadership to business units to optimize capital and operating budgets (i.e. cost management), drive improvements to capital cost management and track program progress. 
   Lead and review the monthly forecasting and annual budgeting process for various portfolios.
   Accurately translate operational changes into a financial forecast to provide business insights.
   Identify key drivers while gaining a thorough understanding of the business model
   Provide insight into financial results regarding revenue, operating expenses, and net earnings. 
   Prepare budgets and variance analyses and work closely with business and regulatory teams to ensure budget and regulated funding level compliance.
   Support the finance team's assessment of migration to SAP S/4HANA. 
   Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Compliance: 
   Ensure compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), tax or securities regulation, as applicable.
   Support the finance team's assessment of whether the Company continues to report under US GAAP by becoming a US Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") Issuer or pursue adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
   Oversee the data integrity of financial systems, by ensuring compliance to financial procedures and accounting guidelines.
   Collaborate with other finance leaders to implement new accounting standards and other disclosure or governance requirements as they relate to areas of responsibility.
   Ensure accounting and reporting processes to ensure compliance with applicable internal control (SOX) requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
   Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills, including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings.
   Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, specifically utilizing Excel for data analysis and modeling. 
   Technical proficiencies in applying generally accepted accounting principles; US GAAP or IFRS knowledge. 
   Proficiency in SAP or other large ERP system and supporting data analysis software. 
   Superior organizational skills and ability to manage time and deliverables autonomously, as well as a demonstrated track record of taking initiative and recognizing opportunities for improvement.
   Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with all levels of employees and industry peers through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes. 
   Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills to perform independent analysis with attention to detail.
   Demonstrated commitment to seek in-depth knowledge of the business along with their processes and data flows to support the finance teams' ability to provide financial insights and identify improvement opportunities.
   Proven ability plan to engage continuous improvement efforts that allow the team to be as efficient as possible, enabling value-add analysis while maintaining workload.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 
   Degree with a major in Accounting or Finance plus a minimum of 10 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
   Professional accounting designation (CPA) required.  
   A minimum of 7 years of leadership experience is required.
   Experience with rate regulated industries and related accounting in energy and utilities is preferred.
