Job Summary

Millstone Nuclear Power Station is hiring an Engineer II or Engineer Ill OR Engineering Technical Specialist II or Engineering Technical Specialist III in charge of the Welding Program. Engineering Technical Specialist series is differentiated from the Engineer in that the Technical specialist does not hold an ABET accredited Engineering degree, but does hold a technical degree and/or the required engineering experience necessary to meet the job requirements. 

The individual shall have relevant welding experience per Section 7.0 of ANSI B5.16. Additional acceptable relevant welding experience includes welding, weld planning, preparing weld data records, preparing weld repair dispositions, designing welds, analyzing welds, inspecting welds, qualifying welding procedures and personnel, performing metallographic analysis of welds, reviewing weld procedures, and preparing documentation necessary for R Stamp or ASME XI Repair Replacement activities involving welding. Practical experience developing and qualifying procedures for the following welding processes: SMAW, manual GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, and Brazing.  Practical experience on joining, PWHT, welding metallurgy, and mechanical properties for carbon steels, low alloy steels, austenitic and martensitic stainless steels, Cu based alloys, and Ni based alloys. Completion of ASME IX training or at least 3 years of experience using the ASME IX code.

 This role is mid-level to top progression level position in the engineer or engineering technical specialist series. Includes proficient to senior technical expert engineers?technical specialists, able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and significant experience within functional assignment area. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards. At higher levels of proficiency within this classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. May be required to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. May serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

3+ years engineering experience is required for Engineer II/Engineering Technical Specialist II; 5+ years engineering experience is required for Engineer III/Engineering Technical Specialist III relevant welding experience as defined in Section 7.0 of ANSI B5.16. Additional acceptable welding experience includes welding, weld planning, preparing weld data records, preparing weld repair dispositions, designing welds, analyzing welds, inspecting welds, qualifying welding procedures or personnel, performing metallographic analysis of welds, reviewing weld procedures, or preparing documentation necessary for R Stamp or ASME XI Repair Replacement activities involving welding.  Experience developing and qualifying procedures for the following welding processes: SMAW, manual GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, and Brazing. Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines; Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead; Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing); Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems; Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices; In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.); Effective working independently or in team environment; Proven decision making skills; Ability to process information quickly and manage multiple tasks; Strong planning and project management. Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 and above, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined are strongly encouraged to apply. REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Required discipline(s): Engineering Applicants must hold a BS Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science from ABET Accredited engineering program.  Engineering Technical Specialist applicants may hold a BS degree in a related technical field.
