Job Summary

Dominion Energy seeks a Senior NERC Compliance Specialist to join the NERC Enterprise Policy and Compliance (NEPC) team. The role is based in either Richmond, VA or Cayce, SC and will focus on the NERC Operations and Planning (O&P) standards.

The Senior. NERC Compliance Specialist provides enterprise level support to the business area NERC compliance groups across the organization, including DEV - Electric Transmission, DEV - Power Generation, Dominion Energy South Carolina, and Nuclear. The Senior. NERC Compliance Specialist supports the implementation of Dominion Energy's NERC Compliance Program and Internal Controls Program to ensure Dominion Energy's electric grid remains reliable, secure, and compliant. Primary job responsibilities are bulleted below. This position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitors NERC standard development activity and leads collaborative sessions with business area compliance teams and subject matter experts to develop unified voting and comment positions.
  • Participates and represents Dominion positions in various NERC forums. Briefs business area compliance teams on NERC committee activity.
  • Provides support for both internal and external audits. This includes participating on internal audit teams, leading mock audit coaching sessions, assisting with evidence reviews, providing guidance on appropriate audit responses, and responding to questions related to Dominion Energy's overarching NERC Compliance Program and Internal Controls Program.
  • Participates on business area compliance investigation teams and special assessments of recurring issues. Reviews self-reports and related data request responses to ensure required information is included prior to submittal to regulator.
  • Ensures remedial actions and internal control enhancements adequately address the apparent cause of compliance issues and will prevent future recurrence of similar issues. Shares findings and lessons learned with other business areas, as appropriate.
  • Provides guidance on new standard implementation. Promotes harmonized processes and internal controls across business areas, where appropriate.
  • Analyzes NERC Guidance, Lessons Learned and posted penalties. Briefs business area compliance groups and supports implementation of new or enhanced internal controls.
  • Provides input on the development of comment/ballot positions for NERC Standard Development Projects.
  • Develops and maintains training to assist business area compliance groups with general NERC orientation and Dominion's Compliance Program, Internal Controls Program, and compliance program management tools and processes.
  • Champions registration, policy, and process improvements to increase NERC compliance efficiency. Works to harmonize business area processes and internal controls where appropriate.
  • Leverages strong interpersonal communication skills and compliance expertise to support business area NERC compliance groups.
  • Builds network of peers by participating in various industry groups (NATF, EEI, etc.) and attending applicable regulatory conferences and webinars. Shares information with business area compliance groups.
  • Administers the Enterprise NERC compliance program and oversees use of compliance management tools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5-6+ years of directly related experience.  (Note:  A Master's degree will count as one year of experience.  A partial year of six months or more will be rounded up to one year of experience).  A minimum of three of direct NERC compliance experience is required.

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:

  • In depth knowledge of NERC, the Regional Entities, and associated Reliability Standards. 
  • Has extensive knowledge of Dominion Energy business interests and able to independently determine corporate positions. 
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge and skills including Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Must have strong analytical, organization, and administration skills.
  • Must be self-motivated; highly proficient at multitasking and prioritizing tasks; be positive and flexible in a changing environment; and work well with others.

Additional preferred skills include: 

  • Technical Writing
  • Experience with SharePoint

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree).
 
Preferred Disciplines:  Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or other similar discipline.
