Description

Ameresco's Distributed Energy Resource (DER) team is seeking a Senior Electrical Utility Engineer to support the development and implementation of DER projects located nationwide, including combined heat and power (CHP) projects, peak shaving power projects, solar generation, battery energy storage, flywheel energy storage, and other renewable technology projects. The preferred candidate will sit in our Portland, ME, Framingham, MA or Charlotte, NC offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Plant Operations Support: Provide ongoing electrical engineering support for existing Ameresco plant operations; Address utility protective relay issues, Arc Flash studies, coordination studies, and electrical safety functions.

  • Project Development: Assist in the development and implementation of new projects, including Renewable Natural Gas plants, Combined Heat and Power projects, and renewable energy systems.

  • Engineering Design: Prepare engineering design drawings, specifications, and bid documents for construction and maintenance projects; Analyze and develop conceptual and detailed engineering designs and cost estimates.

  • Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with vendors and installation contractors to verify feasibility and pricing of proposed project modifications.

  • Project Management: Manage project expenditures and ensure compliance with safety standards, company objectives, and technical requirements.

  • Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain effective business relationships at all project phases; Review customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and specifications.

  • Policy Development: Develop and maintain electrical safety policies and operational procedures.

  • Proposal Engineering: Provide proposal engineering support including conceptual drawing preparation and cost estimations.

  • Collaboration and Guidance: Collaborate with project teams to establish design intent and performance requirements; Deliver support and guidance to construction managers to ensure successful project completion.

  • Utility Interface: Interface with electrical utility representatives to define project details and interconnect applications.

  • Documentation and Compliance: Review detailed design documents and ensure compliance with company standards, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards and codes.

  • Support and Troubleshooting: Provide engineering support during project construction, commissioning, and operations; Address engineering needs for troubleshooting, training, and documentation preparation.

  • Perform Duties as required. Adapt to the changing needs of a dynamic engineering environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years' electrical system analysis and design engineering experience, with exposure to facility operations and electrical installation projects involving Renewable Natural Gas plant co-generation, engine-generators, heating, cooling, lighting, motors, building controls, and automation technologies.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with cogeneration systems.

  • Advanced computer skills with current Microsoft office applications, including Excel.

  • Experience with AutoCAD and electrical engineering software such as ETAP is desired.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and act quickly with minimal supervision.

  • Proven ability to manage and complete complex projects in a timely, cost-effective manner.

  • Excellent organization skills including ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong verbal, written, computer communication and technical presentation skills.

  • Valid Driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing.

  • Ability to travel as needed is required.
