Overview

This position is responsible for the delivery of electrical safety programs to the public and safe excavation awareness presentations designed to educate and ensure the welfare and physical safety of those individuals in the construction industry, utility industry, first responder groups and the general public that live near and perform work in and around utility-owned facilities. The position is also responsible for leading investigations into damages of PPLs underground facilities associated with dig-in events. This position functions as the coordinator and central point of contact for PPL locator and contract cable locator supervisory and field crews.

Responsibilities

1. Responsible to perform on site investigations up to and including complex events of all dig-in damages to underground cables, getaways, substations and associated PPL Electric Utilities facilities. The position requires event documentation (photographs), excavator interviews, contract locate interviews, and completion of appropriate company reporting forms necessary to finalize and document the incident, develop root cause analysis and determine the responsible billing party accountable for the damages.

2. Ensure underground cable location work performed by PPL employees and contractors is done in accordance with Pennsylvania Underground Utility Line Protection Law (UULPL), Department of Labor & Industry (L&I), Pennsylvania Public Utility Code (PA PUC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA), and other Federal, State and Local regulations.

3. Responsible for the delivery of appropriate-level education programs (live demonstrations, lectures, seminars, etc.) to contractors, builders, facility owners, trade associations, first responders, fire companies, EMT groups, police departments, fraternal organizations, Municipalities, Penn DOT, State and Federal Agencies, homeowners, secondary and trade Schools, community organizations and PPL employees on electrical safety and other hazards associated with and around utility facilities.

4. Coordinate substation fire response protocol with Local Fire Departments, County Emergency Management Agencies (EMAs), to ensure the safety of the public, employees, emergency responders, and the environment. Educate Fire Department emergency responders on safe work practices in and around electric facilities while performing their firefighting functions.

5. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

6. The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Qualifications

1. 5-years' experience in safety operations, utility construction or operation, or related technical field, OR

2. Associates Degree in Safety Management, Electrical Technology, or related technical field, OR

3. Journeyman Lineman or Journeyman Electrician

Preferred Qualifications

1. Working knowledge of Underground Utility Safety Act and PA-1 call system.

2. Strong presentations skills.

3. Formal incident investigation experience and/or training. (e.g. Taproot, Apollo RCA)4. Working knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and OSHA 1910.269.
