Job Summary
Evergy is seeking a Welding Engineer reporting through Maintenance to join our team at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station located in Burlington, Ks. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of activities related to the Welding Program in support of plant operations. Individuals in this position may also provide technical guidance and direction to consultants, vendors or other employees for effective solutions to Welding and R program issues.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
   Identify, evaluate, and resolve welding engineering problems in an accurate, timely and informed manner.
   Proactively seek and accept responsibility for solving new and difficult welding engineering challenges, while appropriately assessing and managing risks.
   Effectively communicate technical concepts across all levels and customer organizations via both verbal and written communication.
   Participate in Industry Working groups and identify new or improved welding processes/techniques.
   Review, and revise program procedures to incorporate improvement initiatives and to ensure compliance with applicable Codes and regulatory requirements/commitments. 
   Review and Provide training for site personnel from engineering, maintenance, and contractors on the Program requirements, criteria, and compliance documents applicable for performing work activities.
   Supporting site organizations, and contractors performing activities, that fall within the scope of the Welding Program Manual. 
   Prepare and Review work packages to ensure that design output is complete and correct and has appropriate hold points.
   Develop, optimize, and qualify weld procedures and parameters.
   Preparing, reviewing, and approving Weld Records and ASME Section XI Code Repair Plans for modification and maintenance work.
   Providing ASME/NBIC Code support/problem resolution 
   Providing support for outages, emergent issues and generation challenges which may require shift work/off hours.
   Support of audit inspections, and assessments.
   Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry guidance. Provide interpretation of industry guidance. Responsible for initiating or assisting the Engineering Divisions in preparing Relief Requests employing applicable Code Cases.
   12-hour work shifts during outages as part of our overall Outage support (24/7). 
   Mentor others in the field of expertise and assist in training and evaluation of less experienced personnel.
   Attend Engineering and Maintenance Training as determined by supervision.
   Participation in the Emergency Response Organization if assigned.
   Performing other assigned duties as determined by Supervision.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The following is required for an Engineer I, II, Staff, Senior, Lead:
   The Engineer I position requires a BS degree in engineering.
   The Engineer II position requires a BS degree in engineering and two years relevant experience or a MS degree in engineering.
   The Engineer Staff position requires a BS degree in Engineering and four years relevant experience or a MS degree in engineering and two years' experience or a PhD in engineering.
   The Engineer Senior position requires a BS degree in engineering and eight years of relevant experience or a MS degree in engineering and six years of relevant experience or a PhD in engineering and two years relevant experience.
   The Engineer Lead position requires a BS degree in engineering and twelve years of relevant experience or a MS degree in engineering and ten years of relevant experience or a PhD in engineering and six years relevant experience.
   Curriculum must be accredited by the accreditation board for engineering and technology (ABET).  Any other baccalaureate engineering curriculum that has not been accredited by ABET but has been evaluated and found to be of an equivalent standard that may be reviewed and accepted by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions is acceptable.
   Relevant experience is defined as professional level experience in engineering, engineering support or nuclear plant operations and support. The incumbent must possess engineering expertise related to the general area of assignment such as electrical, mechanical, civil, nuclear, etc.

The following is required for an Engineer Technologist I, II, Senior, Lead:
   The Engineering Technologist I position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field.  A high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and 8 years relevant engineering work (or equivalent combination of education and experience) may be substituted.
   The Engineering Technologist II position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field plus two years relevant engineering experience.  A high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and 10 years relevant engineering work (or equivalent combination of education and experience) may be substituted.
   The Engineering Technologist Senior position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field plus eight years relevant engineering experience.  A high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and 16 years relevant engineering work (or equivalent combination of education and experience) may be substituted.
   The Engineering Technologist Lead position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field plus twelve years relevant engineering experience.  A high school diploma (or GED equivalent) and 20 years relevant engineering work (or equivalent combination of education and experience) may be substituted.
   Relevant experience is defined as professional level engineering, engineering support, or nuclear operations and support. The incumbent must possess engineering technical expertise related to the general area of assignment such as electrical, mechanical, civil, nuclear, etc.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Successful completion of the Engineering Fundamentals examination is preferred for Engineer I - Staff.  Kansas Professional Engineer License is preferred for Engineer Senior - Lead.

COGNITIVE SKILLS (language, mathematics, reasoning):
   This position requires the ability to:  read, analyze, and interpret complex documents; make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to top management, and/or boards of directors.
   This position requires the ability to:  comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory; work with concepts such as limits, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
   The position requires the ability to:  apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases; deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
