Job Description:

The primary role of this position is to lead the US Wind Performance Engineering team towards its goal of improving overall plant availability and efficiency. The team is responsible for developing performance models, data analytics, and machine learning models to improve asset performance for full and robust asset oversight. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate, and guide the US Wind Performance Engineering team

  • Align operational and financial critical metrics to team goals and objectives, guarantee the visibility of the deviation of the performance KPIs and ensure execution of corrective actions.

  • Calculates, reviews, and interprets KPIs to ensure the operating portfolio is performing optimally

  • Help US Wind Performance Engineering team develop anomaly detection models in EtaPRO APR to predict and prevent equipment failures. Work with the plants and the Performance Monitoring and Analytics Center (PMAC) to develop predictive models using machine learning models and/or internal data science resources.

  • Measures site/portfolio performance via daily/weekly/monthly review and categorization of lost energy 

  • Provides day-to-day support, data analytics, and information to the plants to improve performance and reliability, investment, and outage plans.

  • Complete and distribute recurring Performance reports for each business

  • Collaborates with Field Services, Operations and Engineering teams to identify system, site or portfolio underperformance and recommend improvements. "Closes the loop" between Operations and Engineering by recording and communicating issues that can be mitigated.

  • Communicate effectively with internal departments, AES subsidiaries, and partners.

  • Supports site handoff to ensure operational systems provide the necessary performance insights to inform O&M activities 

  • Coordinate the budgeting process with O&M leaders, FP&A, Portfolio Asset Management, and Commercial team.

  • Perform Job Safety Assessments and Safety Walks to identify job-site hazards

Technical Knowledge:

  • Degree in BS Mechanical Engineering (preferred)

  • + 10 years experience in power generation

  • Field experience with energy generation plant equipment to improve performance and reliability

  • Working knowledge of:

    • Developing, implementing, and operating performance monitoring programs

    • ASME Performance Test Codes and IEC Wind Standards. Experience with Advanced Pattern Recognition and/or diagnostic tools.

    • GE, Siemens, Vestas, or other OEM wind turbine engineering or operating experience. Experience with power plant controls and control logic.

    • OSI PI data historian and EtaPRO. Experience with vibration analysis of rotating equipment.

    • Rotating components such as gearboxes, wind turbines, generators, and field instrumentation. Familiarity with condition-based maintenance programs and technology applications.

    • Advanced analytics, pattern recognition, and performance software or other reliability or condition-based predictive diagnosis software applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with reading and understanding equipment/facility schematics

  • Excellent analytical skills - ability to work with large amounts of data, facts, and figures.

  • Well versed in the use of the Microsoft Office software suite

  • Experience in utilizing results of data analytics and database tools

  • High degree of commitment to a quality safety culture and an incident-free work environment

  • Convey a high degree of professional competence in all forums and venues.

  • Willingness to travel within the U.S. to support company's portfolio of wind assets
