Position Summary
Washington Gas is seeking a CAD Dispatch Specialist to join the WGL Dispatch Operations team! The CAD Dispatch Specialist deploys resources to respond to system emergencies and safety-related work and monitors the routine service workload. This position requires the ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including holidays.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates emergency response to gas-related incidents, normally involving emergency services personnel, multiple crews, supervision, and other support resources.

  • Takes responsibility for the dispatch operation for periods outside of the core business hours; answers questions and guides other personnel as needed.

  • Prioritizes emergency and planned work, determines the appropriate response, and dispatches resources via the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to ensure safety and efficiency.

  • Collaborates with multiple call centers to set order execution levels and with the employees in the field to recommend appropriate resources/personnel to respond to high order counts and/or emergencies.

  • Serves as liaison between customers and field personnel to coordinate access problems and/or emergencies.

  • Directs Dispatch Assistants and Dispatch Clerks in the performance of their daily duties and responsibilities.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Specialist, Operations Dispatch


Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Highschool Diploma/GED is required. Associate's degree in business, engineering, or related field is preferred.

  • 0-2 Years of related experience in the utility, natural gas, or related industry preferred, including experience with fire or police dispatch center operations, emergency response coordination, call center operations, or field operations preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Washington Gas service area geography preferred.

  • Experience using one or more of the following preferred: asset-based geographic information systems (GIS), Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, work management systems (core and mobile), customer order system (COS), TomTom Work, application extender, order execution schedule, trunked radio systems, safety sector control, service routes and/or field staffing.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of policies and procedures related to emergency response and planned/routing work preferred.

  • Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, to share, retrieve, research, and present business information.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely during stressful situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities simultaneously.

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing work environment, including the ability to extend working hours and change scheduled shifts.
