Description

Supervisor, Resource Operations Analysis & AS Testing supervises daily tasks conducted in the Resource Operations Analysis & AS Testing team. Coordinates testing including Ancillary Service (AS) qualification testing of supply side Resources i.e. Generation Resources (GR) and Energy Storage Resources (ESRs) per requirements specified in ERCOT protocols. Coordinates evaluation of actual events and disturbances experienced on the System to determine if Resources including Aggregate Distribution Energy Resources (ADERs) performance meets Protocols and NERC Standards and develops operational plans to improve power system performance and Resource performance requirements, as appropriate. Provides technical support to implement projects including Revision Requests that impact Energy Management Systems' (EMS') Generation Subsystem. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for the planning and operation of the electric power system. Supervises analysis and system studies, ensures appropriate system modeling techniques are utilized; analyzes simulated or actual operating results; develops solutions to current or future system issues; develops tools and procedures tasks; develops solutions to current or future system issues, and appropriately reports findings and recommendations.  Serves as a mentor for junior staff.

JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and performance management of staff.
  • Frequently interacts with direct reports and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others.
  • Provides direct supervision to professional individual contributors and/or skilled, support individual contributors. Acts as an advisor to department and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. A small portion of time is normally spent performing individual tasks related to the department.  Typically has full responsibility for direct reports.
  • May provide input to budgeting and financial decisions that impact the department.  Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES

  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of the Resource Operations Analysis & AS Testing team.
  • Serves as the SME for testing, including Ancillary Service (AS) qualification testing of supply side Resources i.e. Generation Resources (GR) and Energy Storage Resources (ESRs); and reviews Generation Resource capability tests.
  • Coordinates evaluation and reporting of actual events and disturbances experienced on the System to determine if Resources including Aggregate Distribution Energy Resources (ADERs) performance meet Protocols and NERC Standards and develops operational plans to improve power system performance and Resource performance requirements, as appropriate.
  • Serves as the SME for Resource performance standards and strategy for the reliable operations of ERCOT System.
  • Serves as SME for Resource performance during AS deployments and other related periodic reporting.
  • Provides technical support to implement projects including Revision Requests that impact Energy Management Systems' (EMS') Generation Subsystem.
  • Provides technical support for evaluation of Ancillary Service requirements to ensure that they aid in meeting system reliability requirements.
  • Provides technical operations support to staff to support testing of Resources including Ancillary Services qualification, system frequency control, events and disturbances, and supply side resource performance monitoring.
  • Maintains compliance with NERC Standards, ERCOT Protocols, Operating Guides, and other binding documents, as appropriate, and supports revision process for assigned sections.
  • Develops and sustains a high-level understanding of the competitive energy markets.
  • Coordinates closely with other teams across System Planning, Operations and Grid Solutions Development.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and performance management of staff.
  • Reviews and approves staff leave requests.
  • Represents ERCOT on various ERO and ERCOT committees, subcommittees, working groups, and task forces.
  • Represents ERCOT at the State Operations Center during emergency events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATION

  • NERC Certification as a Reliability Coordinator is preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience and 1 year in a leadership role preferred in excess of degree requirements.  Minimum years of job-related experience can include time in leadership roles.
  • Minimum of 5 years technical experience in systems operations required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of data querying, data analysis, coding and automation required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Power Systems Studies Tool such as PSS/E, PowerWorld, DigSilent GmbH, GE EMS
  • Experience in SAS, R, Python, Matlab, VB/VBA, Tableau

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree: Electrical Engineering or related field (Required)
  • Master's Degree: Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (Preferred)
  • or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required

CERTIFICATION

  • PE Professional Engineer (Preferred)

WORK LOCATION:

  • This position is Hybrid.  Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at least 2-3 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs as determined by management.
  • On-site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs as determined by the Manager.
  • Remote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence.  
  • Employees may opt to work on-site more than required or 100% of the time.
