Description
The IT Architect, is responsible for leading and promoting the enterprise architecture process within the organization including the creation of governing principles, policies, standards and procedures to guide solution decision making for the organization, and to lead the development of an implementation plan for the Enterprise Architecture program.  The successful candidate is responsible for driving and creating innovative solutions to solve complex technical/technological challenges in order to ensure the highest level of reliability, efficiency and quality of IT systems. This role provides major input to strategic leadership, management and oversight on behalf of Cyber Security and Enterprise Architecture in the areas of Cybersecurity, IT/OT, Cloud, Infrastructure, Analytics solutions.The successful candidate will play a key role in the development, sequencing and prioritization of the IT capital portfolio and operating programs. Working with internal and external stakeholders, develops, implements and manages the creation of industry leading technical standards including Proof of Concept analysis pertaining to the areas of IT/OT, Cloud, Data Analytics, Infrastructure and etc. The successful candidate provides recommendations for architecture for all technology projects, new platforms - on premise or cloud based and ensures alignment of technology solutions to established frameworks and security standards.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in architecture of the following domains and their application to IT and OT environments:

  • Application Server / Middleware
  • Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) / Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) / Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
  • Web Portal and Collaboration
  • Custom Solutions Design & Development
  • Cloud Solutions

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assess and evaluate new trends impacting the Utility industry and specifically Toronto Hydro
  • Design IT Asset Management model including life cycle and framework (aligned to corporate goals) that drive/improve IT system reliability, quality and timeliness of IT service, cost and/or safety
  • Develop IT foundational technology strategy and system plans, including conducting technical research, trending analysis, specifications and the creation of white papers
  • Create, maintain and enforce industry leading architectural standards, policies and procedures and gain approval from IT Senior Management/Executives
  • Provide technical leadership for solution design and architecture while supporting business case development, project delivery and problem/incident management
  • Lead technical Proof of Concepts for new technologies to support the IT Modernization
  • Define and lead the strategic roadmap for platforms within the responsible domains
  • Manage and audit IT project execution with technical governance to ensure technical standards compliance and justify necessary exceptions 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary technical degree (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering) or diploma with a suitable combination of education and experience
  • Five to ten (5-10) years of experience in IT Architecture in at least two IT disciplines (technical/solution architecture, enterprise integration, custom solutions/application development) in a heterogeneous environment)
  • Proficiency in designing solutions for enterprise IT environments involving utilities specific operational systems (e.g. SCADA, ADMS, metering) or ERP systems (e.g. SAP ECC/S4HANA), HRIS (e.g. SuccessFactors), and Customer Information Systems (e.g. Oracle CC&B)
  • Experience integrating emerging Utility technologies such as Battery Storage, Energy Storage, Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Charging Stations etc. is a plus
  • Platform design, operational management and architecture experience with Enterprise-Grade Application Server/Middleware platforms (e.g. IBM WebSphere, Oracle WebLogic, SAP Netweaver)
  • Solutions development, operational management and architecture experience in application integration methodologies (e.g. EAI, API, ETL) with commercial Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) /Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) platforms (e.g. IBM MessageBroker/Integration Bus/ App Connect Enterprise, SAP BusinessObjects Data Services, SAP Process Integration/Orchestration)
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure (e.g. server/virtualization, storage, network) database design and administration (e.g. Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP HANA, IBM Netezza), IT asset inventory, enterprise intersystem scheduling, enterprise workflow design, enterprise document management (e.g. OpenText Content Server)
  • Experience with creation of architectural standards, policies and procedures for Application Server/Middleware platforms, Commercial Enterprise Service Bus/Application Integration/ETL platforms, web platforms, custom code development
  • Knowledge of Incident and Problem Management, Technical Governance structures, ITIL and SDLC Frameworks
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
