Description
Summary

Spire is hiring an Equipment Operator/Gas Worker in the Farmington (MO) area.  The role will perform a variety of manual tasks associated with the installation, reinstallation, maintenance or repair of underground natural gas pipelines, mains and services. Tasks involve strenuous physical activities such as digging, lifting, climbing and using a variety of tools and equipment, including shovels, sledgehammers, jackhammers, picks, pry bars, concrete saws and vacuum excavators. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Excavation of main or service pipe, trenches or ditches
  • Excavate around other utilities and adhere to Missouri One Call excavation standards
  • Tapping and stopping of mains and services of various sizes, materials and pressures
  • Cathodic protection investigations and repairs
  • Locating underground gas facilities
  • Leak investigations and repairs
  • Determining odor intensities and measurements
  • Performing various code compliance programs, including but not limited to: leak surveys, valve inspections, P/S reads, exposed main inspections, etc.
  • Install, remove and replace piping below street levels
  • Restore excavated areas and surfaces
  • Clean tools
  • Remove sod from lawns (typically using a shovel)
  • Operate equipment such as (but not limited to): backhoes, skid steers (with various attachments), mini excavators, lawn plows, trenchers, directional boring equipment, full-size excavators, vacuum excavators, rock breakers, etc.
  • Transport supplies to and from truck and worksite for job set-up, excavation and clean up
  • Load and move materials during the excavation process
  • Drive truck and trailer combinations of the various types of equipment

Supervisory Responsibilities

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Class A CDL

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Previous construction-related and/or laboring experience
  • Proficiency in Maximo program
  • Ability to maintain Operator Qualification requirements
  • Periodic Respiratory-Pulmonary fit test qualification
  • Ability to maintain a Competent Person Certification and have a thorough knowledge of Company Construction Standards and Safety Standards and Procedures
