Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Studies and understands the labor contract, lab procedures and equipment utilized in the lab area. Makes job assignments, keeps hourly time sheets updated daily and schedules overtime as needed. Orders equipment parts and consumable supplies necessary for operations.
2. Supervises laboratory operations and personnel as directed. Determines analytical priorities with plant needs by communicating with laboratory management, production units, and other departments. Plans and manages sample flow.
3. Acts as laboratory material custodian on all shifts. Directs and performs operations to comply with material control requirements.
4. Approves analytical data prior to reporting to ensure compliance with analytical and regulatory requirements.
5. Monitors and evaluates lab operations and communicates this information to lab management and staff. Reports accidents, equipment issues that will impact laboratory operations, procedural deviations, an any other unusual occurrence.
6. Communicates as required with Maintenance Department to identify repair needs and priority when equipment problems occur. Establish maintenance priorities if required. Writes work orders, serves as Work Area Administrator and performs Lock Out/Tag Out.
7. Directs hourly personnel, monitors and helps hourly maintain their job qualifications. Monitors analytical quality, level of performance, and procedure compliance ability to meet regulatory and safety requirements. Communicates and acts on this information as required. Initiates disciplinary action if needed.
8. Able to perform with minimal oversight from Laboratory Operations Unit Manager. Capable of providing sole supervision of the off-shift.
Education Requirements:
B. S. -- Science, Engineering or technical field OR eight years' laboratory supervision experience may be substituted for the B. S. Degree. Must have one year of college Chemistry or Physics.
Experience Requirements:
One to two years' supervisory experience. In lieu of the 1-2 years required supervisory experience, a B. S. -- Science, Engineering or other technical degree without supervisory experience is acceptable.
