Overview

The Director Human Resources leads the corporate organization's HR Business Partner function. The incumbent, working collaboratively with the business lines, drives PPL's culture, employee engagement, and employment brand strategy by ensuring employee programs align with the company's mission, values, and strategy. Responsible for providing integrated HR support to client area(s) based on identification of business needs, creating a seamless interface between HR and client area(s), aligning services and resources, and working with clients to support change efforts. Provides overall direction and oversight for human resource functions, including recruitment, hiring, compensation, employee and labor relations, performance development and management. Serves as an internal consultant to leadership on people issues. 

This is a hybrid position located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Preferred candidate will have experience working in a manufacturing, utility, or oil and gas operations environment.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan, develop, implement, and manage human resources programs and processes in support of client group business objectives, organizational needs, and strategies. Provides leadership and oversight for day-to-day management of best-practice human resources.
  2. Builds business partnership relationships with client groups and acts as a member of the client group's management team to provide direction and counsel on broad-based human resource programs and processes.
  3. Partners with leadership teams to support the company's strategic direction, including providing leadership, training, counseling, and support to line management.
  4. Provides strategic human resources insight into operational issues and goals.
  5. Assists client groups in championing PPL's core values and vision.
  6. Provides direction in the investigations of employee complaints, grievances, and claims or charges of discrimination. Liaises with supervisors, managers, and staff in disciplinary or termination proceedings. Works with client leadership to promote the implementation of sound employee and labor relations practices and procedures.
  7. Responsible for the oversight and governance of the corporation's policies, procedures, and practices. Investigate and provide counsel and advice regarding concerns about policies, procedures, and practices. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with key contacts in client area(s). Works with leaders and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment.
  8. Provides direction and guidance in the development and implementation of Human Resources policies and programs which in turn promotes a commonality among the PPL companies in day-to-day administrative practices and procedures. Ensures client groups are compliant with various federal, state, and local laws as they relate to Human Resources.
  9. Develops and implements the corporation's employee engagement strategy to promote overall organizational health and employee effectiveness.
  10. Serves as a change agent in defining and transforming the company's culture.
  11. Provides appropriate communications within the organization and promotes employee understanding of company programs, policies, and objectives.
  12. Builds, develops, and manages the activities and performance of a team of HR Managers, generalists, and the requisite support staff.
  13. Fulfills other duties as necessary or assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business.
  • 10+ years of progressive responsibility in Human Resources including significant experience in HR leadership positions.
  • Broad conceptual knowledge of the human resource function including employee relations, employee engagement and branding, compensation and benefits, labor relations, talent acquisition, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a field relevant to Human Resources.
  • SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, or SHRM-CP certification.
  • Experience working with labor unions.
  • Experience in human resource strategic planning and project management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong client-service orientation and the ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to link business objectives with HR initiatives.
  • Broad knowledge of generally accepted human resource practices and regulations.
  • Leadership and management skills, problem-solving skills, results-orientation, tolerance for ambiguity, integrity, courage, interpersonal skills, business acumen, analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, utility, or oil and gas operations experience preferred.
