Summer Internship Program

Our 10-week program is designed to increase future employment potential for prospects while providing a valuable resource to the business. This Summer Internship will appeal to proactive and self-motivated college juniors/seniors with a genuine desire to learn about the energy business and industry. During the internship, candidates will work on real projects and have real responsibilities. NRG aims to help candidates build strengths, gain skills that can be transferred to any workplace, and stand out from the crowd. 

Ideal Candidate 

This Intern role within the organization is a DE&C Engineering Intern based in Houston, TX. NRG is looking for selfdriven, high-caliber individuals who can grasp complex commercial issues and harness information to deliver solutions. In return, NRG will provide the support, guidance, and opportunities to help our ideal candidate be successful. DE&C Engineering Intern Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a fundamental understanding of NRG standards and their requirements 
  • Define scope and develops schedule & cost estimates for major utility power plant projects
  • Work with 3rd party consulting Architect/Engineering firms to develop permit and execution plans for projects
  • Evaluate the technical potential of emerging conventional, renewable and energy storage technologies
  • QA/QC technical designs and work products issued in support of project execution
  • Prepare project status reports; Monitor and report project progress and health
  • Support and resolve project technical issues that arise during execution/construction phase
  • Internal/external project/program reporting in satisfaction of financing arrangements, loan guarantees, grants

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree discipline: Engineering / Mathematics / Science  
  • Must have completed second year of college with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship

  • Based on placement, location, the schedule of your work week will be a hybrid work schedule: a combination of remote work and in-office per team needs
