Job Summary
This position will play a vital role in our legal department, overseeing all nuclear regulatory and related matters such as facility relicensing, nuclear regulations, investigations, enforcement proceedings, plant physical and cybersecurity, spent fuel storage, and litigation You will work directly with our nuclear power plant employees and senior management, and will collaborate with other attorneys in the legal department. Key Accountabilities
- Provide legal counsel with regard to facility relicensing, nuclear regulations, investigations, enforcement proceedings, plant physical and cybersecurity, spent fuel storage, and related litigation.
- Serve as primary legal point of contact for our nuclear power plant employees.
- Oversee outside nuclear regulatory counsel.
- As needed, appear before relevant regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
- Provide advice, assist investigations, and support to Vistra safety department personnel as requested.
- Provide advice and support to risk management group regarding insurance and claims.
- Actively monitor regulations, rules, and laws that affect the legal requirements and risk exposure to our nuclear fleet.
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree, Jurisprudence Doctorate, and current license to practice law
- Minimum of five years of relevant nuclear experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Broad based understanding of the nuclear industry and general business practices.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.
Key Metrics
- Build and maintain an effective partnership with internal clients at our nuclear plants to identify and mitigate legal risks while achieving business objectives.
- Manage outside counsel and help develop strategy for all related issues concerning our nuclear fleet and manage outside counsel spend in order to minimize costs to Vistra.
- Stay up to date on laws and legal trends in the nuclear industry in order to effectively mitigate risk to Vistra.
- Appear before relevant regulator agencies to advocate for our interests.
