Job Summary

This position will support TAPR (Transmission Asset Performance and Renewal) as the Lead Engineer for the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Region. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading the Enhanced Needs Process for assets within the assigned region. This involves coordinating and collaborating with various stakeholders across AEP, gathering documentation, and creating validation packages, which planning function employees ultimately use to justify asset renewal driven projects both internally and externally to AEP. This role will aid in the development of the C55 program to further enhance and find efficiencies for the renewal process. This position is intended to perform intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of technically and economically appropriate engineering solutions and with consideration to employee and public safety, system reliability, standardization, ease of operation, and timely project completion.

Job Description

Based on education, experience and interview, this opportunity will be filled commensurately at either title:

Engineer (intermediate) (grade 6) = bachelor's degree in engineering + 2 years of experience; OR, may consider entry-level with a master's degree in engineering

Engineer Associate (grade 5) = entry-level with a bachelor's degree in engineering

More Specific to TAPR:

Plan, organize, and lead the TAPR Enhanced Needs Process in the assigned region for the continued development of a flexible 5-6 year Transmission Portfolio. This includes making decisions on assets to include in the process, coordinating the development of stakeholder input, and generating validation packages. This will require an understanding of asset outage data, asset age data, asset condition data, and asset health data. Drive collaboration with Distribution Planning, Transmission Planning, Transmission Field Services (TFS), Transmission Engineering, and Operating Company representatives. Each group is critical to the success of the Enhanced Needs Process. This will require the ability to build trust and openly communicate plans and expectations. Develop the C55 Platform within the renewal process in collaboration with the entire TAPR team. Learn and document best practices and efficiencies gained. Support and provide guidance for any internal or external data requests. This could include supporting rate case and commission filing RFIs (Requests for Information), RTO (Regional Transmission Organization) Needs Submittal questions, reviewing the TTMP (Transmission Telecom Modernization Program) work plan for potential overlaps from upcoming projects and Enhanced Needs Process Candidates, and general data requests from Transmission Planning. Technical Expertise: Possesses intermediate level knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis. Demonstrates competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step). Exhibits ability to understand interrelationship between systems and component equipment. Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes. Problem Solving & Initiative: Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems, which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin. Demonstrates ability to identify problems that are beyond the normal routine. Demonstrates ability and desire to seek out opportunities and embrace new ideas and approaches. Business Awareness & Characteristics: Understands AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of their individual organizational unit. Demonstrates an understanding of the budgeting and approval process including the use of IRR and EcoSys. Is proficient in the application and use of economic analysis techniques in problem solving. Develops an understanding of utility regulation and financing.

Planning & Organization Ability: Coordinates the development of input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc. Uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities. Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met.Problem Solving & Initiative: Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin. Demonstrates ability to identify problems that are beyond the normal routine. Demonstrates ability and desire to seek out opportunities and embrace new ideas and approaches.

Communication: Develops, reviews, or presents technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses in as clear, concise and effective fashion.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET* and (0-2) years of experience.

Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization as Engineer at grade 6.

*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Acceptable alternatives are

(1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or

(2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

INITIAL POSITION / BASE SALARY FUNDING: ($60,438 - $88,850). In addition to base salary, AEP offers competitive Total Rewards including: discretionary annual incentive, 401k, pension, health insurance, vacation, etc.
