Summary

APS Palo Verde is looking for Communications Summer Intern to join their team in Tonopah, AZ

The APS Communications Summer Intern will have the opportunity to acquire broad experience in creating engaging and informative content related to Palo Verde for our internal/external and stakeholder communications. Interns will learn to solve routine problems of limited scope and complexity while following established policies and procedures. Will also apply academic training and knowledge acquired to actual work responsibilities as determined by scope of project and associated tasks.

The Palo Verde Summer internship is a paid 10 week program.  During the 10 weeks at Palo Verde you will be equipped with the tools needed to thrive and be challenged with meaningful individual and group projects.  You will get support from leaders who will help you succeed. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in a New Hire Orientation, Professional Development opportunities and company tours to learn more about Palo Verde and Arizona Public Service.  

The Palo Verde Internship is a paid 10 week program starting in May, ending in July.  Qualified students will receive housing during the program, if an in person internship.

Assignments may include

Internal Communications

  • Write feature articles and covering events for the company's online publication circulated to 2,500 employees. This may include interviewing internal and external teammates, and multi-media production such as event photographs and/or video.
  • Assist with development of employee campaigns promoting company programs and initiatives
  • Support coordination, preparation and day-of duties for internal events and meetings
  • Assist with survey development/collection and other tasks related to analysis/measurement projects

External Communications

  • Assist in producing content to highlight the value of Palo Verde to various stakeholders
  • Assist in owner market advertising campaigns
  • Assist in tour reparation and execution
  • Support coordination, preparation and day-of duties for community events and meeting

Stakeholder Communications

  • Work with team to develop and refine messaging around strategic issues (e.g. new power plant, regulatory decision, rate change)
  • Draft columns, news articles, website content and other editorial pieces for placement in external media and other projects as needed 
  • Develop social media campaigns and messaging (Facebook, Twitter, blog).Create multimedia materials to support campaigns to investors, regulators and state/community leaders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled FT (minimum of 12 credits a semester) in an accredited college or university in Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, English or similar Bachelors or Masters-level degree program. 
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • A valid driver's license will be required for specific assignments
  • Some light travel required
  • Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training specific to functional area

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will possess strong writing and proofreading abilities and knowledge of AP style
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external clients
  • Initiative to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to produce video is a plus
  • Aptitude for social media
  • Academic standing of 3.0 GPA and 30+ semester credit hours

Major Accountabilities

1) Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs; assists in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations and studies.

2) Assists in research business documents/studies or technical reviews; Conducts analyses, investigations and verifications and completes results or findings through written reports or oral presentations.

3) Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and apply learning in completion of work assignments.

4) Coordinates efforts with other disciplines, and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.

5) Performs administrative and technical tasks as required.

6) May perform higher level tasks which may involve knowledge or training in such tools as programming codes for Information Systems, Applied engineering principles, or Business methodology.

7) Performs other related duties as required.

Nuclear Requirement

Any PVGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. Any PVGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.
