Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

The Dig-in Reduction Team (DiRT) Investigator is responsible for investigating all excavation related damages to PG&E's subsurface installations. The DiRT members will participate in the identification of emerging industry trends to enhance PG&E's Damage Prevention Programs and ensure post-incident investigation and evaluation of damages to company infrastructure resulting from excavation. Additionally, Investigators will conduct proactive outreach to all excavators, including Licensed Contractors (2nd Party and 3rd Party Excavators), Public Works Departments, Agricultural Professionals, Handymen, and Homeowners, etc.

Position will require 30-50% travel time within PG&E's service territory.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

Incumbent should expect to travel to Kern County area for projects, meetings, trainings, etc

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

California Minimum:$100,000

California Maximum:$161,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Respond to and investigate reported excavation damages to PG&E's subsurface infrastructure and complete related documentation and investigation reports. Submit preliminary summaries of all damage incidents (Dig-in Matrix).
  • Conduct follow-up/closing-meetings with damaging parties as needed to discuss incidents and lessons learned; post-incident follow-up with primary contractors and excavators to prevent incident recurrence.
  • Conduct tailboards of Dig-in Incidents with Locate & Mark teams, PG&E crews and 2nd party contractors.
  • Respond to and partner with internal stakeholders, including Damage Recovery, NECU, Regulatory Compliance, Law, etc. for research, analysis, and/or data requests.
  • Respond to and investigate reports of unsafe excavations made through the 811 Ambassador Damage Prevention hotline.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to excavators for educational, communication and relationship building purposes.
  • Facilitate and moderate Locate & Mark or excavator requested meet and confer discussions.
  • Schedule, organize and facilitate 811 Safe Excavation Workshops (contractors, homeowners association, and other parties who conduct excavations).
  • Network and build relationships with external public safety partners (City Inspectors, Fire Departments, Law Enforcement, etc.)
  • Attend meetings and process improvement sessions with key internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications-

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of utility or related experience (in damage prevention, and/or public safety and/or investigations)
  • Proficiency in computer applications (including MS Office)

Desired:

  • 2+ years of experience in conducting complex investigations
