JOB OVERVIEW 

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Performance Improvement Officer in Human Performance department. 

Reporting to the Human Performance manager, this position is responsible to collect and analyze data including Key Performance Indicators, lead and support evaluations and maintain strong relationships at all levels of the organization to influence individual and organizational behaviors and support a strong culture of continuous learning and improvement

Key accountabilities include data analysis, evaluations and assessments, event investigation and in the field observations and coaching.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • This role is unique in the successful candidate will be responsible to maintain strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Investigate major incidents, accidents and injuries and provide findings and recommendations to the Line of Business Manager. As assigned, lead or participate on teams investigating incidents, making recommendations to site and senior management as required.
  • Data analysis, trending, report writing.
  • Provide advice, guidance and assistance to all level of the organization on Human Performance program fundamentals and recommendations.
  • Conduct investigations of significant internal events and reactive assessments as directed.
  • Plan and execute high quality and timely evaluations.
  • In the field observations and coaching
  • Deliver workshops, presentations.
  • Act as an advisor and coach to influence all levels of organization.
  • Other duties as required.

EDUCATION 

  •  4 year university degree in an appropriate engineering or similar technical field with knowledge of Industrial Organizational behaviours or Organizational Psychology
  • Knowledge of the physical and/or applied sciences, to apply and interpret Health and Safety requirements in an industrial environment. Requires advanced written and oral communication skills to clearly communicate with a wide variety of people and to act as a resource/consultant/facilitator in a variety of committees or task group situations.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 6 years of experience in Reviewing Corrective Action Plan (CAPs) to confirm the plans meet required standards and actions address identified adverse conditions in human performance and human errors - Assisting in the development of CAPs - Recognizing behavioural trends, such as cross-functional, in station/divisional performance, which require follow-up action
  • Work with line organizations to assist in providing Human Performance and CAP programmatic oversight, including monitoring the status, quality and progress of work as required.
  • Assist line managers to improve department/division performance by acting as a mentor for the line organization
  • Lead and/or support analysis as required to develop corrective actions through, but not limited to, the following: - Root Cause analysis - Causal Factor analysis - Apparent Cause analysis 
  • Prepare and make oral and written presentations related to the Corrective Action Program to all stratum levels.
  • Facilitate workshops as the primary instructor. Interact with and frequently coach EO Managers on SCR evaluations to improve and maintain both quality and timeliness.
  • Prepare new or revise CAP- and/or PI-related controlled documents consistent with operating licenses, policies, principles, department standard practices, standing instructions, etc. Submit for review and approval.
  • Prepare reports to provide information and data in answer to internal or external requests or for historical purposes. Initiate studies or investigations where opportunities for improvement are apparent.
  • Participate in training programs to further own development and assist in the development of others. Attend lectures, do assignments, and write examinations. Develop training material and give lectures, set and mark examinations, and otherwise assist in training programs.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the line organizations in the use of CAP-
  • Coordinate preparation of performance metrics, ensuring there is factual and objective reporting of performance. Trend and analyze data to identify precursors to problems and to improve plant performance.
  • Assess and report on organizational climate within client departments (behaviours, culture, survey results, etc.). Facilitate and/or conduct workshops to assess and identify opportunities to improve and persuade and/or influence to produce desired change.
  • Experience in Power Bi and web applications is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
