JOB SUMMARY

The individual will work in Fleet Central Design and will be responsible for preparation and review of seismic equipment qualification documents, civil/structural calculations, design specifications, and nuclear plant design change packages for Plants Farley, Hatch, and Vogtle. The individual will be responsible for overseeing the technical quality of products prepared by vendors. Other duties include working to resolve plant operational issues, maintaining fleet standards and procedures, and supporting/leading industry activities. The individual will work as an integral team member with Central Design personnel at all SNC sites.

The ideal candidate will have experience in seismic equipment qualification or exhibit a strong desire to develop seismic equipment qualification skills. The ideal candidate will also have a design background in civil engineering that will allow them to prepare and review civil and structural calculations related structural steel and concrete in compliance with existing and new industry standards, codes, and regulations.

The individual should have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work in a team environment, and accept new challenges. The individual should understand and exhibit a strong technical conscience.

The individual may be required to travel to support plant activities and attend industry meetings.

Job Requirements:

Educational Requirements:

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university or PE license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards for civil/structural design is required.

  • Ability to solve problems and make sound engineering judgments, based on experience and proper application of good engineering practices is required.

  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills are required.

  • At least 3 years of nuclear plant civil/structural design is preferred.

  • Two years of seismic equipment qualification experience is desired.

  • Experience in the SQUG GIP (Seismic Qualification Utility Group Generic Implementation Procedure) methodology is desired.

  • Working knowledge of nuclear power plant design and operating requirements is a plus.

  • Experience with nuclear industry standard design process IP-ENG-001 is a plus.

  • Proficiency in structural analysis using GT STRUDL is desired.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, specifically WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT is required.
