All Field Planning Technician Trainee training is paid. Your 10 week in-person training will take place in our Training Center located in Chino, CA. An additional 4 weeks of on-the-job training will be at your designated work location.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Working closely with planners, designers, and field personnel to perform routine field visits.
  • Coordinating activities with both internal and external customers, other utilities, local governments, and construction crews to meet important deadlines.
  • Documenting field conditions including environmental and traffic control requirements, identifying and documenting electrical distribution materials, taking photos, pole loading, and reviewing/approving meter panel locations to ensure compliance with electrical design standards.
  • Performing field verifications and pole calculations using technical applications like Design Manager, SpidaCalc, SpidaMin, SCEGeoView, Circuit Mapping Tool, and Transformer Connectivity Tool (TFSI).
  • Working in various weather conditions. Potentially in remote regions - the coast, desert, or mountains across California.
  • Maintaining a safety "own it" attitude where you choose to be safe for what and who you value.
  • Occasionally lifting items; typically less than 40lbs.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Experience, training, or education in any of the following fields: Drafting, Mapping, Architecture, Construction, Engineering, or Electrical.
  • A valid Driver License.

The preferred

  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • Familiarity with electrical utility industry practices and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent if you have experience with overhead or underground electrical distribution systems.
  • Proficient with computer software applications, such as SpidaCalc, SpidaMin, Design Manager, Circuit Mapping, SCEGeoView, cGIS, AutoCAD, SAP, SharePoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Successful completion of Electrical Utility Planner Certification Program (from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona), AutoCAD, or similar programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to connect with clients/customers.
  • Customer service experience building relationships, identifying needs, and resolving issues.

  • Work Mode: This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. Upon completion of training and becoming a Field Planning Technician, your work mode may change based on business needs.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
