ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations to join our External Affairs & Regulatory team. This role is accountable for leading TransAlta's strategy and engagement with Indigenous communities across our fleet, including, consultation and business partnership development with Indigenous communities. You would be accountable for applying clear and consistent approaches to Indigenous relations; providing advice and guidance to business units working with Indigenous communities, building community partnerships to support sustainable growth and operations; leading and/or advise on regulatory requirements for consultation; and ensuring the consistent implementation of corporate Indigenous Relations strategies, policies and programs.
This is a full-time salaried position based at our new head office in Calgary located at TransAlta Place (Keynote Office Tower).
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Maintain clear and consistent approaches to Indigenous relations across the business

Coach business and projects teams on working with Indigenous communities

Ensure regulatory requirements are understood and met (directly or through consultant management)

Support business leaders and business units to establish, build, manage and maintain the Indigenous relationships and networks necessary for growth projects and operations

Advise and advocate for new opportunities for Indigenous partnerships within the company (i.e., Supply Chain Management , Human Resources, Business Development, etc.)

Assist in the development of a budget to support the accountabilities of this role, including Indigenous awareness and training and recommendations to business teams on budgeting Consultation and engagement for specific projects

Respond in a timely fashion to ad hoc requests as required
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

Degree in Indigenous Relations, Political Science, Law, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, or Sustainability

Experience and comprehensive understanding of regulatory frameworks across jurisdictions for First Nation and Metis Consultation

Regulatory consultation and associated reporting is required

Motivated team player with a passion for working with our Indigenous communities

Experience in the power industry is beneficial

Certification or training in project management is an asset
